Know about Lorena
At the beginning Lorena did not want to form part of the Ellas Lo Bordan workshop. But now she can’t live without sewing. She has found a passion for sewing and a new lifestyle among the sewing machines. She is one of the 20 women who have created the ATERSTÄLLA cushion collection found in the IKEA stores in Madrid.
When I start to sew, I feel free”
It is almost 7 AM. Lorena catches the bus and then the train. Her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter’s nursery school is close to the workshop, so she drops her off before going to work.
All the girls start at 8 in the morning and go home at 4 in the afternoon. A working day on which they all agree at the start of this project.
Who would ever have imagined that when they offered her this job she wasn't very keen on the idea! In fact, Lorena said no. They had to persuade her.
“Thank goodness, because I honestly love it! When I started to sew, I didn’t like it at all, and now I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world”, she tells us.
Everything flows smoothly among the fabrics
Until now, Lorena had never been to IKEA before. But now she is dying to see her cushions and those of her workmates in the stores in Madrid. It will be her first visit, and she will see the fruits of her labour and that of all the other women.
- “We wanted to know what makes you happy, Lorena”
- “My daughter is what makes me feel happy. To see her happy and to feel I can raise her on my own.”
Lorena dreams of a future working amongst fabrics. She is specialising in pattern making, and never stops learning. She dreams of having her own store and making children’s clothing. The first person to wear her designs will be her daughter.
