How to set a summer table

Even a small gathering can be made into a special occasion if we set a beautiful, summery table.

Because now, at this time of year, meals with friends and family are a way to display all our creativity when it comes to laying the table. It doesn't take much effort or expense, or ostentatious decoration. Here's an example of how to set a summer table. Hint: natural materials and light-coloured fabrics are always a good choice.

We hope you like it and feel inspired!

How to choose your summer tableware

How to combine your tableware

When choosing tableware to set our table, there are two options: either we use the dishes we have for everyday use or we use the tableware we set aside for big occasions. So, why not combine them? Why not play with patterns and colours. It's summer!

When choosing your tableware, don't worry too much about finding a complete set that matches. A mix of different designs on the bowls, dishes and plates with a similar theme will add a more creative touch if they are stacked on top of each other.

How to create a plant garland or natural table decoration

Bring a touch of nature to your table

When it comes to laying a summer table, flowers are an absolute must. You can introduce them in many different ways, but they simply have to be there.

In this idea you can see here, instead of buying a bouquet to decorate the table, we have given it a home-made touch by picking flowers from the garden and placing them in a vase in the centre. We have tied other small stems with a string, creating a super simple and beautiful garland.

However you incorporate them, flowers and nature play an important role at your summer table.

Glassware: summery coloured glasses and goblets

Glassware is one of the key features of any table and in summer it can create an amazing display. Why? Because sometimes we forget that we have options beyond the typical transparent glasses and goblets we normally use.

The best way to get your table ready for summer is to keep combining and innovating with colours and materials. How? Here are some ideas!

  • Coloured glasses that remind you of the sea: the blue looks beautiful on our table!
  • Coloured glasses to match the flowers you've chosen for the occasion: pink, green, yellow... Don't be afraid to choose eye-catching shades.
  • Find a balance with transparent wine glasses that are colourless but have some kind of engraving or detail that makes them special.

Tablecloth: contrasting fabrics that go together

If there is one thing that is crucial when it comes to laying a table, it's the tablecloth (or the lack thereof). It's okay not to put a tablecloth on your summer table if you're looking for something more informal. Although, considering the layout and setting we are creating here, it's clear that the fabrics immediately make it look more attractive.

You can also combine a natural fibre table runner with linen and lace tablecloths to give a modern touch to a more traditional tablecloth. You can also choose natural fibre tablecloths, but in this case individual ones for each guest.

The final result is an elegant, summery, cosy and modern table. We love it!

And now that you have the table all set, don't miss:
