Visiting a home: children's bedrooms in full colour
Children's bedrooms are the ideal space to play with colour and let your imagination run wild. That's why, if your little ones love happy, eye-catching colours, then we're suggesting a couple of ideas for colourful children's bedrooms that won't leave you feeling lukewarm.
Your children's bedroom isn't usually just for sleeping. It's often also their own space to play, read, paint and, essentially, harness all that childhood creativity. So, creating a fun environment that's full of colour could be the best way to encourage those activities. Below, we'll show you two ideas for children's bedrooms: one where the colour red is king, and another where green shines brightest.
Child's bedroom in red tones
Is there a happier colour than red? It doesn't tend to be particularly well used in decorating because, being so striking, it's considered somewhat loud and impractical in the long term because you might get tired of it. But if you pick the right combinations, this doesn't have to be the case.
So, if your son or daughter love this colour and they'd like it to feature heavily in their bedroom, go for it! The only thing to bear in mind is creating contrast with other colours to nuance it and give it a more subtle effect. For example, if you're going to make one of the walls red, you can go for a floral wallpaper in softer shades, as shown in the photo, and keep the other walls white.
However, if you want this colour to be centre stage, it's important to create cohesion. So there should be other items in this colour dotted around the bedroom, either decorative objects, bedding or furniture.
To balance it out, you can choose to add other tones to the room that go really well with red, such as white and yellow. You could even get some pieces that have all these colours, acting as a link to create a more attractive visual effect.
One example is our RAKLEV rug, which has a neutral base and multicoloured stripes. Ideal to dial down the intensity whilst not losing the essence of the bedroom. What do you think?
Other elements that can also take the limelight are bedding, cushions and lamps.
Child's bedroom in green tones
Green is another colour that isn't used so frequently in decor, especially in its bolder shades. But this is exactly what makes it extra special. With the colour green, it's much simpler to achieve an original bedroom that makes the difference. That's why, if your little ones like it, our advice is to go for it.
Again, it's about combining this colour with other more neutral tones like white, grey or light wood in various objects such as toys, bedding and cushions. That's what's been done with the wall in the picture, in dark green on white. You can also play with different tones from the green colour spectrum, like emerald or lime, almost turning into yellow, to keep the effect looking fresh.
What do you think of these options? Our advice is to involve your little ones in decorating their bedrooms. As we said at the start, it's the space in the house where they spend the most time, their little world, and so it's pleasing if the decor is to their liking.
Listen to them and don't be afraid to pick their favourite colours. As you've seen, although they're quite eye-catching, you can create a balanced ambiance using different combinations.
