A home visit: how to decorate a table with flowers
It doesn't have to be a special occasion to decorate your table differently, don't you think? We're here to show you some incredible table decor for the summer, filled with little details and, of course, a variety of flowers. Turning any old table into something special is easier than you think!
Let's see how to decorate a table with flowers and other details to leave your guests speechless.
Step 1: Choose a theme and arrange the flowers
Start by choosing a floral theme for your dining table, whether indoors or outdoors. We chose wild flowers, but you could also opt for plants for a tropical style or dried flowers to celebrate the arrival of autumn. Select different tones if you're looking for a specific style or to match with the rest of your decor... whatever you like!
Whatever you choose for your floral table, keep in mind these details if you're going to use it during the summer:
- Start with a neutral base: a white cotton tablecloth creates a light, summery appearance and will help highlight the dinnerware.
- For the dinnerware specifically, we suggest opting for vibrant colours and/or floral prints.
- If a large floral centrepiece doesn't fit your style, use lots of little vases spread over the table.
- Just leave a few small branches in each vase to maintain a clean and simple feel.
Step 2: Matching dinnerware
Add some personality to your table by pairing your favourite dinnerware with other vintage or antique pieces you can find in markets.
"I don't have many matching bowls or plates. I don't care if things don't pair perfectly. Most people don't even realise", explains Julia, who decorated the tables you see here. "What I love most is when a table is really full, because it's more fun that way. Lots of plates, bowls, small dishes, glasses and cups".
However, even if, like Julia, you fill your table with flowers and small, charming details that keep in line with the theme, always remember to leave space for food if you plan on keeping it in the centre of the table and not serving it individually. First things first!
Step 3: Details that make the difference
Decorating your table in general isn't the only thing that matters – small details are key. Finish off each place setting with a detail that will win over your guests when they sit down.
What about placing each person's favourite flower next to their plate? Instead of buying an entire branch of fresh flowers, Julia uses individual artificial flowers that can be used for other creative ideas. "I like incorporating subtle, personal touches; something unique for each guest", Julia remarks.
If I put the effort into cooking a delicious meal, naturally I care about how my table is decorated".”

Step 4: Comfort for after-dinner conversation
Your meal was a feast, but no one wants to go home yet. Don't let the party fizzle out! Inviting your guests to move from the dining table to the sofa for an after-dinner chat is something that everyone loves — even more so during the summer. In this case, Julia uses the top of the side table to bring drinks to the living room, where everyone will spend the rest of the evening. A tray also eases the burden of having to move around and helps you bring everything to the table.
And did you notice the detail of the pitcher? There are small dried flowers inside the pitcher of lemon water. Keep with the floral theme even during after-dinner conversation, whether inside the pitcher like in this case or by placing flowers in the centre of the table.
