How to create a children's play area at home
Whatever space you have at home, it's really important that your little ones have areas to play in, learn and develop their creativity to its fullest. These handy tips will teach you how to create the perfect play area at home. Take inspiration from this shared room, designed to encourage imagination and independence.

Room for fun
Having a space where they're free to express themselves boosts children's confidence. Don't have much space? Play with customisable furniture that encourages that creativity and watch your artists spread their wings and fly. Look at how blackboard doors turn these drawers into a blank canvas to explore. Furniture like this saves space, creates extra storage and is fun for the little ones.
Tip: using storage that's easy for children to open or move means they can look after their own things. And you will benefit from them learning the important lesson of taking responsibility for tidy spaces.

Creative space
Children love to experiment with colours and that's why drawing is so important in their early age. Store creative materials where they're easy to find and encourage their curiosity to play with paint (while being careful, you don't want any carpet or furniture to be caught in the crossfire).
The LUSTIGT colouring roll provides hours of fun, letting their creative spirit roam free. If your children aren't keen on sitting still at a table, you can lay the roll of paper on the floor, where little ones love spending their time, or even hang it on the wall. They'll certainly find it more interesting!
Imagination zone
Give your child props for role-playing games – it encourages them to use their imagination and develops their social skills. Whether it's cooking on a toy stove or playing parent and serving a meal to their soft toys, children learn by copying the things they see grown-ups do and turning these into play. From language to developing good behaviour and being caring, it's building life skills.
To create the perfect play area, prepare different activities so they can do anything they like, such as painting, dancing or dressing up. You can even get creative and come up with new hobbies, such as playing with a puppet theatre. Intrigued? Find out how in the following article.
Cosy corner
You only need a few textiles to turn any corner into somewhere your little one can retreat from the real world into a comforting place that's just their size. Whether it's a secret hideout, a time machine or a portal to another world… their imagination can run free.
If it's a reading corner, add a portable bookcase like the FLISAT and a child-safe reading light – or a torch for imaginary trips taken under cover of night! Use textiles to cosy it up – big cushions to lie on, a canopy to make it snug.
Encourage fun and learning both outside and inside the house! If you liked this article and want to read more about activities and plans for playing and spending family time at home, keep the inspiration flowing by reading the next article.
