Home visit: fun redecoration ideas for children's rooms
As our children get older, their bedrooms need to grow with them. Is it time for a makeover? Yes, it is! With these practical ideas, discover some of the best tips and tricks for redecorating a child's room with a fun touch.
Get inspired by the shared bedroom of these lovely siblings. One by one, we reveal all the storage and decoration solutions that we've incorporated so that no detail is overlooked and there's always that cheerful atmosphere that so aptly characterises children and their nature. And don't worry, all the ideas we're going to show you are practical and, best of all, very affordable. So, what are we waiting for? Let's get started!
Let play take centre stage
The first rule for redecorating a fun children's room is to put play at the centre of everything. And we don't mean that the whole bedroom should be full of toys, but that the environment should be relaxed and invite your little ones to let their imagination and creativity run wild.
Meet Henri and Toni (7 and 5 years old, respectively). These brothers are lucky enough to have a spacious bedroom, so their mother, Nina, decided that they should have their playroom here too. Don't worry if your bedroom isn't the same size—all of these tips can be adapted to any type of room. Here's how.
Right now, Henri and Toni love anything and everything to do with the jungle. That's why we've added textiles with botanical and animal prints. In fact, decorating with textiles is always the easiest and most affordable way to add character to a child's bedroom—especially this one, which was originally all white.
In addition, we hung curtains in front of the bay window to transform an unused space into a stage (complete with a gymnastics mat for more acrobatic performances). We also added a rack of hooks under the windowsill, an ideal height and place to store costumes for easy wardrobe changes.
Add storage that fits the space
A fun bedroom doesn't have to lack order and organisation. We can make it much more attractive if we create a storage system that also plays its part during playtime. Besides, if the children like it, it will help them to store their toys in a more entertaining way and they won't see it as a boring chore.
In this case, we always opt for our TROFAST boxes, as we can choose the structure that best suits the space and, as the boxes are removable, the children can take them from one place to another when they need to.
To give it that creative touch, we've recreated a podium and added decorative tape and wooden numbers to make it real. And that's not all: as with the rest of the room, we've also used additional children's baskets to store cuddly toys and some extra shelves to store their favourite stories. What do you think?
Combine all manner of bedroom textiles
As you'll have already discovered in the first tip, textiles have an impressive potential when it comes to redecorating a room without spending too much. That's why we've not only chosen to add some striking curtains, but we also wanted to play with the rest of the textiles in the bedroom, as in the case of the bed with the children's duvet cover.
Our recommendation is that you create a set that pairs well with each other and maintains harmony. When doing so, the choice of tones is fundamental. To decorate a bedroom and make it fun, we opted for two main colours: blue and green, which go perfectly with the jungle theme and brighten up the space. So, first decide on a range of colours and, from there, create your own design. Your children can get involved too!
In addition to aesthetics, we care about the quality and source of these materials, especially if children will come into contact with them. That's why we want you to know that our bed linen is made of 100% sustainable cotton, which makes it very comfortable and soft to the touch, as well as environmentally friendly.
Opt for traditional games
As much as technology is part of our children's lives, there are times when it's impossible to replace a classic game. That's why we wanted these games, which encourage so much creativity, to be present in their room (or anywhere in the house, for that matter).
For example, hopscotch is an active and simple game that we all loved as children. In fact, we're sure that you've just had a childhood memory of playing hopscotch come to mind. You don't need much room to bring it into your home: just a few metres of free floor space, a roll of coloured tape and something you can toss, such as a small beanbag or a plush toy. Let's get to hopping!
And you're all set! We hope you've been inspired by this bedroom and have picked up some practical ideas to redecorate your children's bedroom in a beautiful, practical and very affordable way.
