Vegetarian meetballs: an option for vegans

Veganism: much more than a fad diet

Being vegan is not following a diet: it is a way of living. It goes far beyond the food we eat.

This type of food completely discards animals (meat and fish), as well as any other food that comes from them (milk, cheese, eggs ...). Of course, beyond the food is the rejection of clothing made with animal skins, the products tested in them, the popular "parties" involving animals, etc.

It is much more than changing what we eat every day: it is changing our way of thinking and living, putting animals on the same rung as us. And this trend keeps growing: The Vegan Society registered an increase of 360% in the period 2006-2016.

Vegetarian meetballs

Fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains are made up of a large amount of beneficial fiber, vitamins and minerals. That's why we recommend (be it vegan or not) that you introduce them more and more into your diet.

A delicious and super easy dish to make are the vegetarian meatballs from IKEA. They are a tasty and easy-to-cook option to get you started in the vegan universe!

As a healthy alternative to the iconic meatball, this vegan option is made with chickpeas, carrots, peppers, corn and kale, so it has lots of vitamins and a high fiber content. They are also free of gluten, soy, nuts, eggs and lactose, so that most people can enjoy them without any allergic problem. You only have to fry them with a little bit of oil and accompany them with a complement such as a bowl of rice or a salad.

If you prepare things with care, if you cook varied dishes and full of color, they can be as appetizing (or much more) than a "junk food".

Pickle and preserve

Vegetables are incredibly versatile and whether or not you are vegan, you should include them in your diet all year round. Have you tried the pickles of homemade vegetables? For example, red pickled cabbage is an accompaniment that is delicious for any meal. Do you want to try to do it at home? It is very simple!

1. Boil the vinegar, water, sugar, salt, coriander seeds and a little chili (if you like).

2. Remove from heat and let stand for 30 minutes.

3. Then, slice the cabbage, add a teaspoon of salt and let soften.

4. Now we have to strain the vinegar, pour over the cabbage in an airtight jar and leave it in the fridge for a week before eating it.

And ready!

Vegetable soup to suck your fingers

We have seen before how appetizing the vegetable meatballs from IKEA were. But they can also be an accompaniment to another dish like this pho soup.

1. The base is a warm vegetable broth that you have made when cooking the ones you like the most.

2. Take these and other cooked vegetables such as onions, cabbage, broccoli and shitake mushrooms to pour them into the warm broth.

3. Garnish and decorate with fresh slices of lemon, mint and cilantro.

It's great. Guaranteed!
