Solutions for laying out and taking advantage of a small bathroom

Would you like to take full advantage of the space in your bathroom? Get inspired by these practical, ingenious solutions to make your bathroom look bigger and more spacious without spending a fortune or committing yourself to unnecessary renovations.

1. Planning out your bathroom

In any small bathroom, freeing up space is a must. We need to take full advantage of the room available to us to store and organise the large number of items we keep in it without sacrificing functional space, right? Now the question is, how can we achieve this? Here's how.

The first thing you need to do, before furnishing and bringing all your products into this room, is to plan out the space. Having a clear view of the space available to you will enable you to figure out how best to take advantage of it. Measure the space between walls and take note of any empty corners or areas that need something extra, jotting it all down as you go.

2. Vertical storage for more space

This observation makes it clear that one of the first things we can do to gain more space in a small bathroom (and in this one in particular) is to take advantage of wall space. To do this, there’s nothing like vertical storage.

For example, one interesting solution is to opt for multifunctional furniture that serves two purposes in one. This is the case with bathroom cabinets with mirrors: while the exterior is a functional mirror, once we open it, we can see that there's a wonderful wall cabinet inside with shelves to store all our accessories. What's more, as the shelves remain hidden, we’ve reinforced a sense of orderliness.

But what if we already have a mirror above the sink? Don't worry! In the case of this bathroom, for example, we’ve used a shelving structure to take advantage of the wall space and enjoy more storage solutions.

As you’ll see, this piece of furniture allows us to conveniently store all our toiletries and organise them in a hassle-free way. You can add baskets, organiser boxes and other bathroom accessories to group things together. They're very affordable and provide us with a highly effective solution to bathroom organisation. Have you seen what we've placed on one side? Think big and don't limit yourself. Add all the bathroom organisation and storage accessories you think may be useful, as we've done with this hairdryer holder.

3. Trolleys and shelving units for difficult areas

In order to free up space in a small bathroom, you need to take advantage of even the narrowest and most complicated areas. In order to do this, we recommend that, in addition to wall-hanging solutions, you opt for other solutions such as narrow shelving units, like the one shown in the image. These are perfect for the gap between the sink and the wall or, as we can see in the photo, for storing shampoo, gel and other products in the shower. Because they have multiple levels, you can arrange these items in a way that best suits you.

Did you notice the wheels on the shelf we showed you earlier? Indeed, trolleys are yet another trick to keep in mind if you’d like to free up bathroom space and, at the same time, increase the number of organisation and storage areas available.

This is exactly what we’ve done in this part of the bathroom. We took an empty spot and filled it with a bathroom trolley that's just a bit wider.

These pieces of furniture allow us to increase the space available to us and have everything within reach when we need it. The best part is that we can move it in any direction. And, as before, we’re able to keep all the items we use in our daily routines in them. Towels, toilet paper—there's even space to decorate it with a nice plant on top.

4. Wall accessories with suction cups

As a final way to take advantage of space in your bathroom, we’d like to tell you about some wonderful accessories. Their secret? The power of suction cups. Bathroom accessories with suction cups are a great alternative if you’re looking to hang small items on the wall, especially if you can't screw them in or simply don't want to take the risk. This is an affordable option that's practical and simple to hang.

Since this small bathroom has a sliding door, we can't place a hook or rack behind the door, as we would usually recommend. So we’ve used suction cup hooks as the perfect solution instead. Without exceeding the maximum amount of weight that can be hung, we’re able to free up loads of bathroom space using these accessories. As you can see in the picture, we've used these types of hooks to hang towels, but you can also place them next to the sink or inside the shower, in the case of baskets with suction cups.

And you're all set! What did you think of these tips? If you're looking for more, there’s nothing quite like this special selection of items to help you learn to decorate and organise your home, no matter the size of your space or your budget.
