Storage solutions for complicated spaces

Don't have much room in your house to store things? Don't worry. We're here to give you a few ideas to creatively make the most out of whatever free space you have. We're sure that there's more than one in your home that you've overlooked.

Sometimes it's not a question of space, but rather of making the most of what you have. A clear example of this is the space underneath the stairs. It's normal to forget about this area and leave it empty. However, if you arrange some modular furniture that adapts to the room you do have, like those in the photo, you can increase your storage space considerably.

And the nook under the stairs isn't the only place you can take advantage of. Here are some different storage alternatives for the complicated spaces in your home.

Wall shelves for sloped ceilings

Sloped ceilings seem like they don't offer many possibilities. But wall shelves are one of them. Hang several racks to take advantage of the width of each specific area and hang the appropriately sized shelves on them

You can place a desk underneath and use this nook as a small office set-upTo increase your storage space even more and keep it super tidy, you can arrange boxes and magazine files on top of the shelves. There you can store all your documents and work materials that you need to keep on hand.

Since this is a pretty tight space, we recommend choosing white for the furniture, this way it will visually seem like the area is more spacious. As for the rest of the space, pastel shades, such as mint green or dusty pink will be the perfect combination.

Storage for narrow walls

In small rooms like the bathroom, taking advantage of each space is key to obtaining a little bit of extra storage. But make sure that you do leave some free space on the wall

It doesn't matter if it's narrow, like you see in the photo; there are options to make the most of it thanks to our ALGOT modular storage system. All you have to do is hang a rack and add the baskets and shelves you want. This type of storage is perfect for small items, such as care products, make-up or hair accessories.

You can even add a mirror that fits the size of your wall and use it as a vanity. What once was a useless space can be transformed into one of the most practical areas of your bathroom. Give it a try!

Mini laundry area in an empty room

Do you have a very smallunused space in your home? If you have enough wardrobes and you don't know what to do with one, a nice idea is to turn it into a laundry area where you have everything you need to carry out this chore.

To make the most of the space, hang some racks above the washing machine and add a shelf where you can leave your hamper for dirty clothes. Above, you can hang a small indoor clothes line

You can also save some space on the side to store your ironing board when you're not using it and to hang hooks behind the door with containers to hold detergent, fabric softener and any other laundry product

Corner cabinets to make the most of the space

Corners are one of the most forgotten areas of the home. However, they can be the perfect nook to increase your storage space.

Corner cabinets will transform complicated spaces into something truly useful. Elegant cabinets – like this one – don't even take up much room on the floor. They're great for corridors and small bedrooms.

At IKEA, we also have other larger corner cabinets for spaces such as the living room, dining room or master bedroom. This way, you can fully use these little nooks to obtain even more storage.

So don't hesitate to look for any free corners in your house and get the most out of them with a cabinet that fits your space perfectly
