Ideas to create your own bedside table
Do you know who invented the bedside table? We don't either, but what we do know is that it doesn't necessarily need legs, and if it has them, there don't have to be four. It's time for some reinvention! Want to create your own bedside table? Take a look at these innovative ideas and get inspired with four alternatives to the traditional bedside table.
1. Floating bedside table
Inspired by an ultra romantic style, this bedside table breaks away from the most traditional features, such as legs. We warned you!
Show off your DIY skills and your sense of balance. It's easier than you think. Make some holes in a cutting board, run some rope through them and tie it securely. If you want to add an even more special touch, drill a slightly larger hole and insert a glass tube to create a flower vase. Fasten it with rope so it doesn't fall to the ground. Finally, hang the entire thing on a curtain rod above the bed at the height that you want.
2. Cubic bedside table
This bedside table was created using our favourite basics, the EKET cubes. Do you know all the things you can do and design with them? In this example, you can create a bedside table that also has hidden compartments.
Here's how! Combine open and closed cubic cabinets and hang them on the wall to display some objects and hide others (we'll leave this choice up to you). Hang one at the height of the bed to be able to open it without having to get up. This way you'll have your things on hand and in sight. You can also hang a few more higher above to create a sort of shelf. The composition will be a lot better for you. You can create this monochromatic bedside table or mix several colours, like in the photo.
3. Bedside table with stackable boxes
Like Russian dolls, this bedside table reveals a new surprise as you remove each layer. Its multiple compartments make it a fantastic nightstand for anyone who wants unlimited space to store their things. Does that sound like you?
Opt for simplicity and spacious storage. This option has both in one! Take a durable plastic box with a flat lid and fill it with whatever you want, but make sure that it doesn't weigh too much. If you want to organise the inside, don't forget to add some separators. Place the box on top of books, bricks or anything resistant that can serve as table legs. Here we used flowerpots with self-watering trays so we have two levels of secret storage. But, shh! Nobody needs to know!
4. Bedside table for impossible spaces
Don't have space for a bedside table but need a place to keep your mobile phone, eyeglasses or a glass of water for the middle of the night? We have the solution!
A small shelf or picture ledge could be the perfect alternative to create a nightstand in a tight space. Simply hang up one or several shelves and you'll have just the right amount of space. You can place one on the side of the bed or a longer size above like a headboard (Pay attention to the height! We wouldn't want you to bump your head in the morning!). If you place one on top of the other (with one of the shelves arranged in the opposite direction), you'll create a sort of ‘double decker' where you can install some LED fairy lights inside to serve as a night lamp.
