If you don’t know how to decorate your Christmas table, don’t miss our suggestions here!
Whoever said that Christmas had to have one single style? We love to show how there are as many different styles as there are people, even when it comes to sitting round the table. That is why we hope you find inspiration in these 5 suggestions for ways to decorate your Christmas table.
1. An elegant, sophisticated Christmas table
This is our most romantic table setting: dressed completely in different shades of green and white. We have used individual place mats patterned with holly designs to match the deep plates. However, take care not to overcrowd the space by choosing all patterned plates. In this case, a plain white plate has been chosen to act as the base, in order to provide space and luminosity.
If there is one element of this Christmas table that commands the limelight, it is our glass domes. We can see that along the length of the table are a range of repeated patterns: domes with white decorations inside combined with others containing lighting chains to light up the table. Nothing else.
And this is one of the keys to decorating any Christmas table: although we may see a large number of elements, we shouldn’t mix in too many. It’s much better to repeat the same elements along the length of the table!
Ah! There is something repeated on all the tables, although in different ways: a little gift for each guest that also marks where they are to sit (if that is what you want). In this case, the woven serviettes are secured with a clip holding a paper flower that guests can take home later.
2. A Scottish table: for those with classic tastes
The striking thing about this table is the materials used: we have mixed lots of patterns and natural textures with a Scottish tartan style Christmas tablecloth that takes your breath away! This Christmas, we have taken on the trend of mixing a thousand and one patterns, but always with a sense of balance and a reason why.
This is a perfect table for all those who love classic style at this time of year, in shades of red and green, but including the latest trends.
We also see here several details that add a little warmth, such as the centre piece, the handmade place mats in a material such as water hyacinth and the wooden bowls.
Another trick that we love is to add decorative lighting, on this table and on the others. Why? Because it shines as it is reflected in the glassware, helps to bring more luminosity and creates a Christmassy atmosphere.
Inspired completely by the forest, all you need for this table is a few pine cones. Keep at least 20 whole pine cones so that you can place them in their natural state (or sprayed), along the table between the two centrepieces, which are also made from pine cones and a candle. A path made with little pieces of broken pine cone, along which walk a few adorable silver insects... Isn’t that brilliant?
The shades of blue contrast very well with the wood, and again we have a little gift for each guest, in this case in the form of a pine cone - naturally!
4. The Scandinavian table: pastel tones, gold and light
These pastel shades and these materials transport us straight to the Nordic lands, with a very welcoming style. Here, the plates are geometric, but with a different design for each guest, to provide greater dynamism with the different sizes.
In this case, the gift is another insect, a golden fly (who would have thought that a fly could be so stylish?), which we can place on the plate, just as we did before. Underneath it, you can put a little card with the name of the guest, or perhaps the menu.
On these centrepieces we have played around with light, and with green and gold, highlighting these three-tier fruit stands on which could be placed either little LED candles or canapés, for example. Does that appeal to you?
We love it when our customers use our products creatively. You can be bold too! However, you should bear in mind that any changes and modifications you make to IKEA products will prevent them being resold or used for their original purpose and therefore such changes will invalidate your IKEA commercial warranty - and your right to return the item.
