Valentine's Day at home: 4 ideas for a special Valentine's Day celebration

Celebrating Valentine's Day at home can be an opportunity to enjoy that special someone in a more intimate way. Want some ideas to make it a great day? Don't miss these romantic suggestions for 14 February.

1. A different kind of wake-up

If you have the opportunity, Valentine's Day can be the perfect excuse to disconnect from the world for a moment and focus on you and your loved ones. That's why we suggest that you start the day off with a little bit of glamour and zen.

Breakfast in bed can be the ideal way to say the first "I love you" of the day, and in the form of food! It doesn't need to get complicated, as you'll see. Some freshly brewed coffee, freshly squeezed juice or herbal tea and some fruit or a tasty, warm croissant can make for a brilliant menu. Of course, if you want everything to be more comfortable, we recommend that you use a bed tray, as it has legs and is much more stable than if you place the food on your lap. An extra detail? Decorate it with some pretty flowers and a small photo of a memory together. It's a subtle touch, but one that will melt anyone's heart.

Here's a tip: put aside the monotonous conversations or the worries that haunt you and try to talk about your best moments together. Great anecdotes are sure to come out and there's nothing like starting the day with a good dose of laughter.

2. Hide a gift around the house

This last year has taught us that material goods are worthless if we can't enjoy them and that there are many ways to give gifts beyond an item in some wrapping paper. If you have a gift ready, whether it's material or something more sentimental, we suggest that you give it in a different and fun way. How about creating a sort of game to find it?

You can leave clues around the house for the other person to investigate until they figure it out. Here, your imagination has no limits: for example, you can create a path that goes from room to room with photos and riddles at each stop or make use of different objects in the house (from their favourite painting to the first frying pan you bought) and save the grand prize for the end.

3. A relaxing bath

With such busy routines, we never stop looking at the clock and timing every task we perform, even those that can help us feel better in our day-to-day lives. That's why it's time to stop and – as we said – focus on pampering ourselves (because we must always love ourselves) and, of course, pampering our partner.

Bring the comfort of a good spa directly into your bathroom. Set the scene with some dried flowers or scented candles, which, as well as smelling wonderful, add an intimate and romantic touch to the space. In fact, you can place them around the bathtub or over the sink area. If you want to keep everything under control, you can opt for candles with LED lights so that there is no danger at all.

4. Dinner in a magical atmosphere

Just as it's important to wake up with a smile on your face, it's also important to savour every last minute of the day. So, to finish off your 14 February in style, we recommend a romantic dinner.

To make sure that this is not just any other dinner, we recommend that you pay special attention to every detail that accompanies the moment. Start with the setting. Create dim lighting with different lights to make it a much more magical and intimate moment. The warm light of candles can be a great advantage.

Next, set the table in a more meticulous way. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant, but you can add some nicer dishes, special glasses for that wine that's waiting for you to uncork together or a table runner that reduces the space to what really matters: the two of you.

We'll leave the dinner menu up to you but if you're cooking, we recommend – if we may – that you pick a dish that's a bit different from your everyday meals. Or why not? You could always order from that restaurant you've been waiting to try out.

Whether it's Valentine's Day or any other occasion, we hope that these tips will inspire your most romantic moments together, even if they're at home. For more ideas, take a look at this selection of articles:
