6 original ideas for organising your wardrobe and accessories

Take note of these original and unique ideas for organising your wardrobe and accessories! Spoiler alert: you can use the walls of your bedroom or dressing room to make the most of the space and keep everything at hand.

We all have those shoes that don’t fit in the wardrobe, tangled necklaces or favourite scarves we use every day. Everything has its place. In this article we will show you how, with a bit of ingenuity and the basics of creating order, you can organise your entire bedroom in an original and functional way. Let’s go!

1. Organise your wall like an open wardrobe

If you have a free wall in your bedroom, treat it like an open wardrobe and hang different garments and accessories throughout the space. Here are some of the ideas we recommend to make it perfect:

  • A standing mirror so you can check out your whole outfit.
  • If you didn’t keep your shoe boxes, use other storage boxes (in black and white, ideally), to store and stack shoes along with all kinds of accessories.
  • Various hooks, lined up and at different heights, anchored to the wall for displaying garments.
  • Other hooks and bars for smaller accessories such as jewellery or belts.

If you don’t have a full wall, make do with smaller spaces, as we have in this picture. Here, we’ve taken advantage of the gap above the unit to put up a bar for hanging up the clothes we want to wear the next day or to simply air a garment before storing it away. To the left, we have also placed a pair of hooks to hang small items, such as the bag shown. And there’s still room on top of the chest of drawers for some accessories organised into boxes. What do you think?

2. How to organise shoes and accessories

Shoes are one of the greatest challenges when it comes to bedroom organisation. Here, we’ve found a fairly simple solution. Take a look:

We have opted to keep the shoes at the bottom of the wardrobe, just below the clothes baskets. This way, they are always to hand without any danger of getting our clothes dirty.

The shoes that we wear most often, or those with a more unusual shape, are the ones that find their home outside the wardrobe. Remember, you can also store any out-of-season shoes in organiser boxes on top of the wardrobe or under the bed (super discreet, usable and foolproof locations). Meanwhile, any remaining shoes have been stored away to the right in practical semi-transparent boxes, as vertical storage. Using this approach, our shoes are always stored neatly but can be found at a glance.

3. A trick to gain more wardrobe space

Have you already filled all the shelves and drawers in your wardrobe? If you need more space, a super-practical, economical and original way to achieve it is with this accessory shown here.

With seven compartments, this storage system effortlessly creates an additional structure inside your wardrobe. All you have to do is unfold it and hang it from the wardrobe bar. It’s really that easy! It’s perfect for storing all kinds of clothes. We’ve opted for shirts, jumpers and sweatshirts, but you could use it for whatever you want, including shoes and trousers. We’ve used the last two compartments, which are narrower, for small boxes that contain items such as belts or other accessories that you prefer to keep out of sight.

What’s more, as well as being very affordable, this storage system is made of recycled polyester, allowing us to cut our consumption of new raw materials and reduce our environmental impact. What’s not to love?

4. Create your own dressing table

Maybe you don’t have room for any more furniture in your bedroom or you simply want to arrange your daily essentials in a different way. What do you think of this option? You can create it yourself with a couple of accessories. Here’s how to do it.

As we said at the beginning, a wall mirror is essential for taking one last look at yourself before leaving the house, so save a space for one that will reflect your best self from top to bottom. For an extra touch, add a spotlight directly above it for optimum lighting for touch ups or, by simply using the light from the window or another spotlight as a backlight you should have no problem seeing yourself clearly. You’ll use it all the time!

Finally, we have delved deep into our ingenuity and found a new use for the piece of furniture we’ve placed alongside it. Can you believe that this was originally a kitchen unit? Thanks to the open shelves, we can display our perfume, hairbrush, and all our other accessories. What’s more, this unit comes with extra-useful and discreet accessories, such as the hooks at the bottom, which we have used to hang watches. The result is surprisingly good!

5. A decor solution using your plants

All this clothing and accessory organisation space is missing is a decorative touch to give it that polished finish. Placing plants in your bedroom can help you to make the most of the space without compromising on beautiful decor.

Taking advantage of the height of the walls and even the height of the ceiling, we can hang our plants and create a floating garden. And why not add pots in natural materials to make your space even more welcoming? The ones shown in the photo are made of bamboo, a renewable material.

6. Versatile accessories

We love it when customers use our products in a creative way. Why not try to do something new with them yourself? But do remember, any modifications or changes that you make to IKEA products will prevent them from being resold or used for their original purpose, thus invalidating IKEA product warranties and your right to return them.
