How to organise a small bedroom
Now that we're all spending extra time at home, it's the perfect opportunity for (re)thinking about (re)organising everything. How to organise a small bedroom is one of the questions asked most frequently, since space is the issue. However… have you ever stopped to think that you might have more space than you originally thought?
Shelves, bedside tables, ottoman beds or beds with drawers, wardrobes, shoe racks… Sure you have the space, but it might not be organised very well. Here are some simple and practical ideas for organising a small bedroom!
How to organise a bedside table
Bedside tables tend to get overlooked when thinking about keeping a small bedroom tidy. And it really shouldn't be! In small spaces, we really need to make the most out of every nook and cranny.
Whatever type of bedside table you have, you can find a way to organise it. First, we recommend cleaning it out: take everything out and clear the top, then give it a thorough clean. Once it's pristine, throw away anything you might be storing unnecessarily if you have drawers or a door, but keep anything that would be useful in this space: your books, ear plugs and mask, if you use them, hand cream, an alarm clock, if you have one…
As you can see, you can even use baskets or little boxes to organise this space even better and hide all those bits and bobs that you don't know where to put but don't want to see.
By the way, have you ever thought of having a suspended bedside table to help you optimise the space in a small bedroom? This is not a bedside table, it is a unit — the EKET shelving unit. Imagination is powerful!
Drawers: allies in your fight against disorder
All types of drawers go through cycles of being a real mess. Sorting the drawers is always on our to-do lists — the time has finally come! Start in the same way as you did for the bedside table: take everything out and give the inside a thorough clean. Once this is done, continue with the following steps:
- Get some bags that you can use to throw away or donate anything you don't use or is a bit too shabby. This will give you some extra free space in your small bedroom.
- Do you have any drawer dividers and organisers? Well, you just need to use them in the right way. Arrange things by type of garment.
- Use one drawer per type of clothing: underwear in one, basic t-shirts in another, then long-sleeved t-shirts, jumpers, etc.
- Inside each of the drawers, you can organise garments by colour or by use: put whatever you use the most at the top so you can get them more easily.
- For underwear and socks, if you don't have dividers, try making your own with any cardboard that you have at home. Use it as it is or paint it in whatever colour you like or to complement your bedroom decor.

Learn how to organise your accessories
No doubt your small bedroom doubles as a storage space for all your accessories — your necklaces, rings, belts, sunglasses and everything else. We have a number of solutions to your accessory storage needs, for example: put them in a pull-out tray like in the image, if you have one, or in a normal drawer, where our drawer dividers come in handy again.
You can also add different pins to parts of an empty wall space, where you can hang your necklaces, rings and bracelets so they don't get tangled.
Sorting out shoes in small spaces
Let's continue in our effort to completely rearrange the bedroom and make it as good as new! We'll move on to another recurring issue: how to sort out your shoes. Like you did with your clothes, start by making room and bag up anything you want to throw away or donate.
Here are a few ideas that we think (and hope) will help you:
1. Organising with boxes
Do you have any unused shoe boxes lying around? Or better yet, transparent boxes? Well, now is the time to use them to get organised. The advantage of using transparent boxes is that you can see what's inside. If you only have ones that you can't see through, then grab a permanent marker and write on the box what shoe is inside. For example: "yellow summer sandals".
You can put them in various places, depending on your needs: inside the wardrobe, if you have space to do so, in the ottoman or underneath your bed, and so on. That being said, make sure the shoes you wear most are easy to grab.
2. Organising the shoe rack
If you already have shoe storage in your small bedroom or in the hallway, it's time to clean it up and get the most out of it. You can strap pairs of sandals and slimmer shoes together using a rubber band or some string, so they take up less space.
3. Level-up your organisation: DIY shoe rack
What if you created your own DIY shoe storage? All you need is a big bit of cardboard, which you use to create triangular tubes of the same size. They need to be big enough to fit a pair of shoes inside. Then you place them next to each other to make the first level. On top of that level, and another one securely. Use a bit of glue if you need it! Super simple.
Use blankets to decorate (and stay tidy)
Finally, now that your home has been freshened up, take advantage by washing all of the blankets. When they are dry and ironed, store the ones you use least in a vacuum-sealed bag, if you have one.
The bedroom blanket or blankets that you use the most do not have to be stored away for the space to stay tidy. You can place them at the foot of the bed, folded or even falling down one side, giving it a different touch.
