How to decorate the terrace for a relaxing atmosphere

How would you like to give your terrace the most comfy, summery feel? Check out this little guide on how to create the perfect terrace for a spot of rest and relaxation. With just a few small changes, you'll see how easy it is to transform your terrace into a warm and super comfy space. Don't miss out!

All you need for a cosy terrace

Just having an area at home that connects us with the outside world – however big that may be – means that you're halfway there to creating a space in which you can disconnect, relax and enjoy your free time. We'll show you exactly how to do this here.

On this terrace, we have gone for a bohemian style, which is perfect for adding a casual, romantic feel to a terrace, don't you think?

The essentials used to create this look were mainly textiles. Textiles are the basic elements that add warmth and personality to any corner of the house and they're one of the simplest, most cost-effective ways of decorating a space too. We then incorporated little accents like plants to add a touch of nature and a few decor items.

How to decorate the terrace with textiles

To make the terrace even comfier, we added some outdoor cushions. These are ideal for updating the style and look of our terrace and don't cost too much either. As they are outdoor textiles, they stay like new for longer come rain or shine, so they will last a lot longer!

By using cushions, not only does the terrace look stunning (very much in the style of the popular chill-out terraces), but we really achieve that added comfort. After all, we want you to spend as much time there as possible, don't we?

The cushions come in all different sizes to fit any of the terrace or garden furniture (both chairs and benches), so it's easy to find the right ones for you.

In the image, as you can see, we've combined cushion covers in shades of blue, a summer colour that evokes calm, freshness and tranquillity, with other touches of muted red, a perfect tone to counteract cool tones and bring more warmth to the environment. What do you think? See the result in the photo below.

Decorate every corner of your terrace

Use other textiles as well as cushions. Why not throw in some blankets? They're great for decorating the space and for cosying up when the temperature drops at night. These can be left on the bench or kept in a nice, handy basket next to the seat.

You could go one step further and lay down an outdoor rug for added comfort on the feet. What do you think? Here we chose a rug made of natural fibres to keep with the rest of the terrace furniture.

As the final touch, we added some decorative flair to the fence. The dark hue of the fence was the perfect backdrop for hanging a few lightly coloured dishes to create this look. We also decorated the space with beautiful plants, creating an eye-catching green pop against the wood. Need more ideas? Opt for some beautiful string lights to spruce up the wall of your terrace and give it that magical glow when the sun goes down.

Add decorative pieces and accessories

Put the finishing touches on your terrace with decorative pieces and accessories to suit your needs. Why not go for a more show-stopping carafe and glasses so even drinking water and having a refreshing drink will be an experience to remember. You can also add placemats made of natural fibres for your meals and snacks. Just wait and see how creating a beautiful and relaxing setting is all in the details.

Oh! Just one more tip. When you're not planning on using the terrace, it's worth storing your textiles and furniture so that they don't get dirty or damaged. And for this, you can't beat waterproof garden furniture covers. Accessories such as crockery can be stored inside a small outdoor cabinet. You'll see how useful it is!
