How to create a walk-in wardrobe in a few steps

A nice walk-in wardrobe! Who doesn't want one? The space we have at home, well that's something else. But we can create a convenient and attractive walk-in wardrobe with very little money and without much work. The idea is to show you how to create a walk-in wardrobe in a few steps so you can show it off to your friends and family.

Apart from being an extremely decorative option, it's also very practical and allows us to organise our clothes in open wardrobes, separating them using drawers, trays and hangers. We'll show you some different ideas to inspire you with our wardrobes. Let's take a peek!

Step by step: How to plan a walk-in wardrobe

1- Choose the room for your wardrobe

Common sense tells us that when we think about how to create a wardrobe, first we have to decide on the location.

The best option is to have the wardrobe in the bedroom, if you have the right space, or in an adjoining room. To build your wardrobe, you can opt for cupboard frames for hinged doors if you want a wardrobe with doors.

Although we won't always be lucky enough to have plenty of room to store all our clothes in our wardrobe. In such cases, we also have options to fix this.

2- Measure the space available for your wardrobe

How wide will your wardrobe be? This is the first question. In addition, it's a good idea to consider the space you need to move things around in the wardrobe.

For guidance, consider that the minimum amount of space you need to hang clothes is a depth of 60 cm and a width of 140 cm. The length will depend on the layout of your wardrobe, whether it's along a wall, in a corner or U-shaped.

3- Design the wardrobe's storage system

Having clothes on hangers makes them easy to see and identify. Furthermore, having clothes folded in drawers or trays takes up less space and allows us to store more clothes. Also, the interior design of your walk-in wardrobe will depend on your taste and type of clothing or accessories. The IKEA interior wardrobe organisers can help you create this.

Generally, the formula that works best designing wardrobes is a combination of hangers, drawers and shelves. If you want, you can design and plan your modular wardrobe.

4- Choose your finishes and materials

The finishes of your wardrobe must follow the style and design of your room and home. Try white finishes, which give off a lot of light.

Choose doors with hinges, mirrors or no mirrors, wood finishes... You can also choose the handles and knobs of your doors or drawers. Deciding on everything down to the last detail will make your wardrobe truly unique.

5- Choose the right lighting

Your walk-in wardrobe's lighting is one of the most important steps when you want to learn how to create a wardrobe.

Our built-in lighting for wardrobes will pleasantly surprise you with its many options. For example, the TRÅDFRI remote controlled lighting will let you turn on your wardrobe's lights as you get out of bed.

6- Add a mirror, a dresser and chair

Having mirrors inside a walk-in wardrobe is almost essential. You'll find them really useful, like the ones which you can hang clothes behind if you want to leave clothes out ready for the next day.

It's not so usual any more to have a dresser and a chair to sit on. Everything depends on the space, and if you can include a dresser, consider yourself lucky!

Also, don't forget to always leave your jewellery and everyday accessories within view and well organised.
