Four small and easy DIY updates
Want to give your space a new look without spending a lot of cash? Try one of these ideas from interiors blogger Anikó, who loves customising the things she already has. “You don’t have to take on a big project to create something that will make you smile and give your home a fresh feel,” she says. “I like using paint and stickers to give an old piece a new look.” From turning a chopping board into a message board with chalkboard paint, to creating a DIY trunk table, she shares a few easy ideas.
Paint your pots
Take a plain plant pot and use paint or a marker pen to write your message. “This plant lives on our kitchen windowsill and is one of the first things you see when you walk in the room. It’s a good sentiment to read every day – and it makes friends laugh.”
Update kitchenware with stickers
Stickers are a great way to play with pattern and they make it easy to create your own design. “Often, a simple pattern is enough to transform the look of an old piece,” says Anikó. And if you’re not sure of the result, you can peel them off and start again!
From trunk to table
Repurpose scrap materials into something you’ll love to use. “I saw this idea for turning a piece of wood into a side table online and was inspired to try it myself. I got some scrap wood from a lumber yard, painted it and added castors. It’s easy, affordable and useful.”
