How to make the most of the sides of your kitchen cabinets

Have a small kitchen or simply lack the space you need to store things? The sides of your kitchen cabinets may be the perfect solution to gain more space. Continue reading to discover these small yet valuable corners.

Every single kitchen has certain things in common: cabinets, countertops, the fridge...little areas that you don't know what to do with, right? Don't worry! In this article, we're going to reveal some of the best-kept secrets to put an end to this issue for good, by using the sides of your kitchen cabinets and drawers. That's right, you heard us! Let's find out!

For a laundry space

This is a big help, especially if your washer and dryer are in the kitchen. Plus, many homes don't have a dedicated laundry room, so this solution is great to keep all your items in order and in the same place. There's space to hang clothes, baskets for an iron and detergent, fabric bags to store clothing that need to be washed by hand and even space for an ironing board.

How did we do it? We just used some suspension racks and attached a few mesh baskets and some hooks to hang objects. For the small baskets, which weigh less, we used a simple hook with a suction cup to avoid making any holes.

Many of these objects can also be fastened with double-sided tape made specifically to hang things.

For comfortable cooking

We all have those typical small objects that we leave on the counter or that take up precious space in our drawers. Well, what if we created a space especially for them?

We like to call it the 'cook's toolbox': here we've placed all the kitchen essentials alongside the countertop itself. We created a shelf for spices and oil out of…a picture ledge!

Just below it, we attached a rack to hang tools such as scissors or a small boardA tablet stand (also hooked onto the rack that we've installed) is also a great idea so you can follow recipes to the T. And for herbs,  aluminium foil or plastic bagsthere's nothing like some thin curtain rods. What do you think?

For household tasks

This structure will help you organise all those things that you're likely to have at home (you know, all the junk that gets thrown in a drawer in no particular order) and all the things that you need to do during the week

For this example, we used a magazine rack to organise documents or bills that we don't want to loseand for tiny objects scattered throughout the kitchen, such as bag sealing clips, these magnetic tins worked perfectly. Here you can store or hang up your most recent shopping receipts. Finally, using basket with suction cups, we can store larger objects, with the option to take the basket down or adjust it whenever you want. This way, everything will stay organised.

Oh! Don't forget to leave room to hang up your weekly menu or a list of everybody's chores.

For when you have little ones in the kitchen

An activity centre is perfect for kids to entertain themselves while you cookIt's a great way to keep an eye on them, but without the danger of them getting too close to the stove. Crayons and toys will keep them entertained while you cook in peaceFor this, we added two spice racks to safely hold their tablet and notebooks. For their coloured pencils and markers, we once again used a practical container with a suction cup. Attach a hook for them to hang their headphones and, as the final touch, arrange some soft pillows so they can sit down comfortably.
