Christmas sweets: six desserts to delight your guests

If there's one thing we love about Christmas, it's definitely the food—and especially the typical Christmas sweets. And while we're crazy about king cake, chocolate nougat or the Yule log, we'd like to offer you some other Christmas sweets ideas that will delight anyone who tries them.

Apart from traditional Christmas sweets, this year we propose that you open your mind a bit and give yourself and your guests a taste of some different and original flavours, so that everyone can enjoy a unique Christmas treat. Also, since we're going to be spending this Christmas in smaller groups and with the people we trust most, there's no better time to reinvent ourselves and take a risk or two.

Who doesn't love a delicious Christmas dessert to round off their holiday meals and dinners? Let's go!

1. Cinnamon rolls

This traditional Swedish treat may be a great option to delight your family and friends this Christmas. Cinnamon rolls were invented in the early 19th century when the ingredients used to make them, such as flour, sugar and, of course, cinnamon, became more readily available. In Sweden, they're typically served in the afternoon with coffee, a daily ritual known as fika. However, they're perfect for any time of day when you want to treat yourself to a sweet treat.

You can make them yourself or, if you're short on time, you can pick up some KAFFEREP from our Swedish Food Market. Each package includes six rolls and you just need to bake them at 170–190ºC for 14–16 minutes. You can serve them as is, or give them a personal touch by adding extra ingredients, such as condensed milk, chocolate or jam. The choice is yours!

2. Chocolate cake

A chocolate cake is a dessert that always pleases, even at Christmas—especially when you have little ones about. That's why our KAFFEREP gooey chocolate cake is a safe bet and is ideal for chocolate lovers. It's crafted with UTZ-certified cocoa, which is a guarantee of sustainable crop standards and good labour conditions. It's also as simple as can be: just thaw it at room temperature for 30 minutes and enjoy!

Want to give it a more festive touch? You can add a bit of decoration. For example, topping it with whipped cream and cutting it into a traditional Christmas shape. To make things easier, you can use a snowflake or reindeer cookie cutter from our VINTER 2020 collection. Like we said, you're sure to win over the little ones at home!

3. Coconut and cocoa pastries

Pastries, shortbread and bun-style sweets are almost never in short supply this time of year. So why not add something a little different to the usual assortment? Our KAFFEREP oat pastry with cocoa and coconut might be the perfect choice.

Thanks to its shredded coconut exterior, this sweet not only looks like Christmas, its flavour is also sure to please! Once you've tried them, they'll become a go-to treat for you and yours. Naturally, they are also made from UTZ-certified cocoa.

4. Cream cake with raspberry and almond paste

For our fourth idea, we've opted for a more innovative dessert: a cream cake with almond paste. Not only does it have a striking appearance, it also features almonds within its ingredients, a food that is quite common in typical holiday sweets, such as marzipan.

It also contains cream cake with a raspberry and vanilla custard filling — an explosion of flavour ideal for those with a sweet tooth. As with the chocolate cake, you only need to thaw them and serve with coffee or tea. Delicious!

5. Apple cake

Fancy a classic? Then, apple cake is surely your best bet. Our KAFFEREP apple cake has a layer of marzipan as its base, which will recall all the traditional flavours of Christmas, but with a touch of acidity from the apple and the sweetness of cinnamon. To top it all off, it features a crispy oat crumble that will make mouths water. Like before, just thaw it at room temperature and serve to your guests. If you want to make it an even more memorable dessert, add a generous, warm spoonful of vanilla sauce on top.

6. Pastry with almond paste

Our final recommendation is these pastries with a marzipan coating and chocolate-dipped ends. The perfect combination for those who love typical Christmas sweets and cocoa, which, as before, is also UTZ-certified. They're ready to be served, so just place them on your tray of assorted Christmas sweets and wait for your guests to enquire about this new addition. Besides making it more striking, its colour is also perfect for this time of year, as it blends perfectly with the classic Christmas palette.

What did you think of our ideas? We hope you've been inspired to try a unique option or two this year, and that your Christmas is as sweet as can be! Below you'll find a selection of articles with other ideas that may interest you.
