Six ideas to create a relaxing bedroom

To create a relaxing bedroom, there are certain things that are absolute musts, and order is possibly the most important factor. Without order, it's impossible to relax, whether it be in your bedroom or in any other part of the house. And your bedroom is the one place where you should find the most peace. That's why we want to take a look at a bedroom that exudes tranquillity, which will help us give you ideas to create the same effect in yours.

Relaxation and rest will be soon be yours, if you follow these tips.

1. The most important element: the bed

Think it's possible to create a relaxing bedroom without a good bed? Think again! We recommend you start by investing in a sufficiently large, quality mattress. Natural materials like cotton, latex and wool provide comfort and maintain an even temperature, giving you the most pleasant sleep.

The structure of the bed is also very important. For example, those made of untreated solid wood will last a lifetime, as the material is durable and sustainable, and can be painted when needed. If you prefer, you can also opt for a lift-up bed, which will provide lots of hidden storage space.

2. Hidden storage underneath the bed

To create a focal point that doesn't call attention to any excess and hides what you store under the bed, it's a good idea to stitch together a bed skirt using old curtains or fabric. Isn't that great? Storage is fundamental in any bedroom, and any space you can use never seems like enough. That's why, if you don't have a storage bed, the best thing you can do is opt for storage boxes and bags, which allow you to keep everything organised under the bed, free from dust.

3. Boxes to organise surfaces

Boxes and bags aren't just great for storing things under the bed; they're also fantastic for organising all the things we inevitably leave around on top of furniture, like the bedside table. Since, in this case, the bedside tables are small benches also decorated with plants, we selected a green shade to match perfectly. Here you can store anything you want, such as hair ties, earphones, ear plugs for sleeping etc., so they’re not scattered all over the place.

4. Which bedding to choose

Bedding is crucial to achieving the relaxing bedroom we're going for. And it's impossible to feel comfortable in bed if the material isn't breathable, if it's rough, if it's too worn-down etc. Did you know that eco-friendly linen and lyocell bedding helps you keep cool and dry throughout the night, even during the summer? Colours are also an important factor: go for light tones such as white, beige or pastel shades.

5. A cohesive, calm, uncluttered space

When it comes to the walls and the layout of the room, less is more. Stick to a specific colour palette, like ours which features neutral beiges and relaxing greens. Use the same colour on all the walls and be selective with the decor you want to display. Think about symmetry and pairs: nothing is more relaxing for a bedroom.

Add some natural plants and dried branches to purify the air and add a green touch to the space. Attach some painted racks to the walls (one next to each other) to hang some of your favourite objects and to care for your clothes (and the planet) by airing them out instead of washing them when you don't really need to.

6. Take advantage of space for storage

Make the most of a wall by adding storage with shelves and bars that you can customise, reorganise and reuse. If your things are organised, you won't have such a hard time finding them and will be able to relax much more easily. Isn't it the worst when you search and search for something but can't find it? We love this solution: a row of modern dressers to keep things stored away and free of dust, but that also add harmony to the space.

A cosy corner with pillows and a mattress pad is perfect for reading or quietly drinking some coffee in the morning, especially if it's next to a window or a lamp with LED bulbs, which consume less energy. Use curtains to remind yourself that it's important to live in the moment and to not accumulate too many things. You will find your peace!
