4 ways to make the most of the terrace
No matter how small your terrace or veranda is, you surely have more space than you think. The trick is to make the most of the space with practical and intelligent storage solutions. This article offers four ideas for making the most of your small terrace to store various items and for maximising that forgotten space of your home.
1. A space to hang clothes
Do you usually hang your clothes on the terrace? In that case, it's a good idea to add a shelf or shelving unit that keeps all your laundry accessories handy. For example, you could put up a perforated panel for hanging items and use shelves to store clothes pegs and cleaning products.
You could also add a small cabinet that can be locked to keep flammable and poisonous items secure. Add sturdy and waterproof boxes, a laundry basket and a drying rack (much more sustainable than the dryer), which can be stored and hung on wall hooks when not in use.
2. A space to relax
What good is a terrace if you can't enjoy it? It's a perfect space to relax, sunbathe and lose yourself in a book. So turn it into an oasis of peace and harmony. To do this, use furniture with a natural aesthetic that evokes nature.
Plus, if you have hardly any space, choose multifunctional furniture that in addition to comfort also offers you extra storage. These comfortable benches open up, revealing stacks of space for your cushions, pillows or blankets when you're not using them.
3. A place to store tools
Why not dedicate this space of your home to storing your tools, sports equipment, your bicycle or any other materials you need for your favourite hobbies? All you need to do is maximise your use of the wall space and choose vertical storage. Your bicycle won't take up much space if it's hanging on a bar fastened to the wall (for this, you can use our dedicated hooks for bikes, BRANDUR or SKRÄLL).
In addition, putting in shelves means you can keep the smallest items in order, especially if you store them in transparent and stackable boxes (making everything easier to find) so that the tools, appliances and accessories are kept safe from adverse weather conditions. Protect your sports equipment from the sun and use boxes and covers to prevent wheels from drying out in the sun. With everything stored on one end of the terrace, you still have plenty of space for other activities.
4. A place to enjoy
Do you cook outside? Create an airy kitchen on your terrace to make smoothies or store your preserves for winter. A trolley unit with a work surface gives you a place to prepare food, as well as a space below for rubbish bins.
A small cabinet with doors means you can protect food from sunlight. You can also store dishes here so that you don't need to keep leaving the terrace to go to the kitchen when it's time to eat. Save even more space with a hanging basket for fruit and vegetables; it's decorative, can be used outdoors and is easy to move from the kitchen to the terrace. Last but not least, don't forget to prepare a small space to eat, take a seat and enjoy it all.
