Three ideas to decorate with dried flowers this autumn

Fancy bringing a touch of autumn to your home? Take note of these three simple ideas for decorating with dried flowers.

As the season changes, nature swaps its various shades of green and vivid colours for oranges, reds and browns, in order to welcome the arrival of autumn. You can also take part in this change of season by decorating your home with natural materials in a very affordable way. Want to see how? We've come up with three ideas to help you create practical, affordable and beautiful decorations with plants and dried flowers. Best of all, not only will this create a warm and cosy atmosphere, but you won't have to worry about any watering! Take note!

1. Vases, the easiest and fastest option

Whichever option you choose, the first thing to do is to pick the plants that you like best and that inspire you to make your own arrangement. This is a great opportunity to go for a nice relaxing walk in the countryside.

Don't be scared of variety! We've put together a mixture of fresh branches, dry branches and a selection of brightly coloured flowers with long stems.

For this first idea, we're going to use vases to hold our plants. They are perfect for quickly creating a stylish decoration that you can easily change any time you feel like trying something new. And there are so many different styles and types of vases to give each room a unique and special touch.

You can always choose just one if you prefer, but why not experiment a little and try something even more impressive? Group together a selection of flowers in vases of different heights and shapes to create an eye-catching display, just like the one shown in the photograph at the beginning of this article. With their semi-transparent, matte and metallic finishes all arranged together, the final effect can be quite spectacular! Try for yourself and see what you can do.

If the height you've chosen doesn't look quite right, trim the flower stems to adjust the arrangement to the way you want it. Don't forget to add a little soil or floral foam in the larger vases that are not transparent, to ensure that everything stays in place and prevent things from moving around too much.

Don't fancy using vases? Why not find a new use for all those old glass bottles you have at home by bringing them to life with your floral displays. A solution that is simple, practical and inexpensive.

2. Your own pine cone wreath

Another idea we've come up with is creating your own wreath. What do you think? Depending on how you decorate it, you could use it either for the everyday decor of a room, or for a special event or time of year, such as Christmas.

All you need to make this winter wreath is to start off with a simple wooden hoop and some seasonal cuttings or sprays, such as sprigs of pine or of other woodland trees.

Tie the cuttings together with thread and wrap them around the hoop so that they stay firmly in place. Let the cuttings stick out in a natural way to create a wild and imperfect impression. And there you have it!

If you want to create an original, festive touch, we recommend that you spray some of the leaves or sprigs with a gold or silver finish. You could also even spray some of them with white foam to create a snow effect.

We realise that putting this idea into practice can get a little more complicated. So if you're still not convinced by the final result, don't worry: you can get purchase wreaths from our plants and flowers section. They are very affordable and the result will not disappoint!

3. An evergreen garden

With this last option, you'll be able to decorate a larger stretch of wall in a very simple way. All you need is the natural materials you've chosen, a pair of scissors and some black thread. Group together the leaves or sprigs in small bunches and tie some thread around the ends. Without cutting the knot, continue to tie the plants together leaving a small space between each one. Mix together fresh sprigs with dried leaves to obtain an effect that is both wintry and colourful. You can make the garland as long as you want, so adapt it to your own preferences and the space available. You can see the end result in the following image. See how easy it is?
