IKEA recalls LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum for choking hazard
14-01-2016
IKEA urges customers who have LATTJO drum sticks or LATTJO tongue drum to bring them back to any IKEA store for a full refund.
This is a precautionary recall due to 6 reports from IKEA store co-workers that the rubber ball of the drum sticks can detach or be unscrewed. The recommended age for these toys are 6+ yrs old, however a loose rubber ball can attract smaller children and in worst case lead to choking. No incidents have been reported.
The products are tested and approved to applicable toy safety standards. However, during our subsequent investigation we identified risks that the standards do not address.
“We develop products intended to stimulate children’s creativity and natural need for play. Children don’t think about safety when playing, so we need to do that when we develop products. Our mindset at IKEA is that we only sell products that we would give to our own children. Despite approved tests to relevant toy safety standards we are therefore precautionary recalling LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum to avoid the risk of any incidents,” says Cindy Andersen, Business Area Manager for children’s products at IKEA.
LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum have been sold on all IKEA markets since 1st November 2015.
The LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum can be returned to any IKEA store for a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required for a full refund. For more information, please visit www.IKEA.ie/ or contact IKEA on 01 541 3302.
