This is an anti-fraud security control to guarantee a higher level of security and strong authentication when you use your debit or credit cards to buy via the Internet.
Depending on the type of card, this control is also known as "MasterCard SecureCode" or "Verified by Visa".
Once you have entered your bank card data, you will be transferred to a screen where you will be asked to enter a secret key consisting of a numerical code that will be provided in different ways depending on your bank:
- Sending the numerical code to your mobile phone via SMS.
- Or by a coordinate card that your banking institution provides to you beforehand and that enables you to unmistakably identify the numerical code.
Your financial institution will authenticate the transaction in a few seconds, and will confirm that it is you that is making the purchase.
If your bank sends SMS messages, remember that when you make a request to the bank for payment via credit/debit card, the institution will ask you for certain data, including your mobile phone number. If you have changed your mobile number, we recommend that you contact your bank.
If your bank uses coordinate cards as their method for providing you with a security key, they will have provided it to you at the time that they sent you the card and the rest of the documentation. If this is not the case, we recommend that you contact them so that they will send it to you.
