Ratings and reviews

Worth the effortSamanthaAfter reading the reviews I was a little hesitant on this project. I will say it's not for the faint of heart, if you have a second person I would 100% take the help. I finished it by myself in just under 5 hours, if you follow the instructions everything goes together smoothly. Honestly the instructions could not be any more clear. The only part that got me was the anchor, by hour four my brain couldn't comprehend how to get the bed anchor attached on to the Slate properly, I had to go back the next morning and fix that. We then read that it wasn't suitable for plus size people, so we tested it. My husband and I are a combined 500 lbs, when its a single bed there was 0 give, we could have invited a friend and still felt secure, then when we pulled it apart we rolled around so that we were both on each side and then spread out, the bed never made a sound, it was solid. I have no doubt it will be perfect for a guest bed the 3 weeks we typically have company, with storage too!5
Frustrated NancyWe ordered two of these beds for my granddaughters and had it delivered we ordered the single with two drawers. After opening the three boxes talk about confusing. It ended up the box contained the twin bed drawers and a trundle bed. It took six hours to put together and I’m not even sure it’s even put together, but it does look nice and we don’t need it so I’m hoping to take back the second bed and try to get the bed, we originally want it without the trundle I have purchased this bed in the past for my other granddaughters and didn’t have this problem.2

Too difficult to assembly; document needs to be updatedJennyWe are two seniors with prior Ikea furniture assembly experience. But this one takes the wind out of us. First of all, the complete package was too heavy to move. When we got home, we opened up package 1 thinking that the assembly instruction was in package 1. It was in package 3. I wish that every parts were clearly labelled and identified in the assembly document so we could relate what we were looking at to what was documented in the assembly book. It took us a good hour (after opening all 3 packages) to figure out that package 1 was not really the first package to open. After getting over the hurdle of somewhat understanding what the assembly document was trying to say, we faced the second hurdle of "lack of strength". The assembly document indicated that we only needed a screwdriver to assemble the bed. We tried to put the screws into the pre-drill holes. We only managed to do 4 screws manually using our screwdriver. We ended up buying a power drill.3
Assembly IssueImanI’ve assembled a lot of IKEA furniture over the years, probably close to 100 items in the past 10 years, and unfortunately, this was one of the worst assembly experiences I’ve had. The biggest issue is how the parts are packed. Components are spread across three separate boxes regardless of the order in which they are needed. You basically have to open and unpack all three boxes before you can properly get started. To make matters worse, none of the individual parts have number stickers or labels matching the assembly instructions. You have to constantly compare the drawings with the actual pieces and go through everything to figure out which part is which. The bed itself is fine once assembled, but the process was unnecessarily confusing, time-consuming, and frustrating. IKEA normally makes assembly straightforward, so this was particularly disappointing. Numbered labels and better organized packaging would make a huge difference.2
Great for several mattress sizesLindaI bought this as I wanted a 3/4 mattress and this frame allows for a twin to a full, so it was easy to pull out just far enough for the 3/4 mattress. No one else sells a frame that will fit this. It’s a complex build and you definitely need two people and a few hours. The drawers were hard to get situated properly but finally did so. Happy with the end result.4
A challege to assemble.Katrina DianneCONS---It took us 4 hours to asemble the bed,Screws are messed up with NO labels so its a guessing game to know which one is correct. Its an assemble/disassemble the whole time as the guide is hard to follow. When we moved it to the side it looks like it will fall apart, We had a carpet so its a bit hard to pull the lower part to make it a whole bed. PROS--looks good on our small room,my husband loves to sleep with the daybed but we didnt try the whole bed to see if it can handle 4 persons to sleep.Lets hope for the best and praying it will last.3
Really good but some parts weren't the bestNuzayraYou absolutely need a power tool to assemble this, but they insist your arm has enough force to shove the screw through the wood. It's really comfortable and is the perfect size for a cozy room (which is how I'm using the bed). Some of the holes in the parts I got weren't aligned perfectly, so the product did come out slightly slanted in some minor ways (we double and triple checked). 3
Difficult to assemblyTabithaThis bed took overt 3 hours byv2 men to assembly. The instructions not complete so we went to YouTube to help, that creator even have to produce 3 instructional videos . you better get it done by the Ikea or dont buy it. The bed itself is indeed works as expected. Stabile. Its just very very difficult to assembly1
An unstable, dangerous, & regrettable purchase.CandiceFull disclosure, I purchased the frame through "as-is" online. Despite it being a return, listed only cosmetic defects; the box had some very minor damage & a cosmetic scratch was visible through the hole in the box. Everything else about the item was brand new, sealed, & unused. Assembly was straightforward; this is far from the most complicated furniture that I've ever put together. It is, however, the first IKEA item ever to have failed so spectacularly, made worse by the fact that I can count on two hands how many times it has been used in only a few years (guest bed). The majority of the issues relate to pre-drilled fastener points, suggesting that the material is weak & the screws, etc. are inappropriate. Radiating stress cracks appear where side panels & horizontal support bars connect on the exterior frame. The grey overlay has chipped away in these spots, creating large gaps at the pre-drilled holes. Untimately, it is unstable & risks injury when it inevitably fails.1
Perfect DaybedAnonymous reviewerLove this daybed. Bought it for spare room which is small so the added storage was a bonus. Was a little tricky to put together (you will need at lease two people) but when complete it’s a solid piece of furniture. Would recommend this product. Grey colour is really pretty too.5
ReviewKayellI had very difficult time installing the bed. Plus the screws are not sustainable. Not for long term use. 1
Perfect fitSonjaFits neatly and is sturdy.5
Difficult assemblyTaraDoesn’t fit standard mattress, need to buy a new mattress. The drawers don’t open smoothly, probably due to the assembly.2
Daybed disappointment EdReally hard to assemble. Enclosed instructions were not very helpful. Had to consult two YouTube videos and even then it was a struggle. 2
Very poor screw qualityKendrewI don’t understand why IKEA needs to make the screws on the middle track supporting drawers particularly long with a plastic cap extending out from the middle beam. The screw can barely take the increased torque due to the length of the screw. The screw is now stuck and cannot be tightened or cannot be removed. This product sucks1
Sharp corners JodieYou’ll want to replace the pull handles on the drawers as they’re leg scrapers. We have this bed for our toddler and we immediately swapped out the pulls after an incident. As with most ikea furniture, the corners are so sharp. Just be careful 3
Great buyKristinGreat bed for my spare room. Fits the space perfectly and looks great. Comfortable whether sleeping on it as a twin or pulled out to full size 5
Needs structural improvements Anonymous reviewerWe purchased our Brimnes daybed just over 3 months ago and all was great. Installation was good and we used it as a twin multiple times with no issues. We had a friend stay overnight and use it as a full bed (extended out), and the daybed fully collapsed under him while sleeping. Everything was installed properly with latches in place to prevent the two sides from separating, but due to what I’m assuming was an uneven weight distribution, the center of the bed collapsed which caused the two sides to pull apart. This product could benefit from structural reinforcements where the two sides connect/overlap. If you’re looking to buy a daybed, we would highly recommend going with the Hemnes model which has a slightly more solid design. Now I wish we had but we liked the look of the Brimnes more... There is also NO warranty on this bed, so if you’re over the 90 days and something happens, you might be offered a $50 gift card, as we were. Very disappointed. 2
