It´s so coarse that scouring it with a damp cloth is impossible without the fabric getting stuck in the grain of the wood. Seeing as this is meant for kitchen usage, thats pretty bad design.2

It is not the most beautiful piece of furniture I have ever owned, but it is perfect in my eclectic, student-y kitchen. It provides a surprising amount of additional space relative to the space that it takes up, and it is a very sturdy surface for chopping, storage, assembly…it is even large enough to provide a sort of mini-table space for the kitchen so that you can socialize as you cook.5
