Waste less, contain more
Despite rising grocery costs, Australian households are throwing away the equivalent of 10,000 meals every two minutes.
The good news? A few simple shifts in how we organise and use food can go a long way – making it easier to see what’s there, keep food fresher for longer and make the most of it before it goes to waste.

Waste less food, make it go further
No one sets out to waste food or money, but life gets busy. That's why we've teamed up with the experts at End Food Waste Australia to show how small, everyday actions can help Australians get more from the food they bring home. The Great Unwaste campaign shows how simple changes can help make your food (and budget) go further.
1. Pack it. Stack it. Chill it.
Store food correctly to keep it fresher for longer.
2. Flexi meal plan
Be adaptable and use what you already have at home.
3. Join the leftovers resolution
Turn yesterday’s meals into something new.
4. First in, first out
Keep older items visible so they get used first.
5. Stick to your list
Plan your shop to avoid buying more than you need.
6. Cook just right
Prepare portions that match your needs.
7. Save room for seconds
Serve smaller portions first, then go back for more.

The right storage solution makes it easier
With clear storage solutions, you can easily see (and find!) everything you’ve stored. Great for sparking inspiration when planning meals and even better for reducing food waste.
Every meal matters
At IKEA, we've reduced production food waste in our restaurants by over 60% since FY17, saving the equivalent of more than 47 million meals around the world.
We also offer customers across all stores in Australia the opportunity to buy surplus food at a low price from our restaurant, bistro and Swedish Food Market through Too Good To Go.
