This bed frame has a soft cover with a tight fit, snug look and carefully sewn details. The cover can be removed and machine washed – so that the bed stays fresh year after year

Product details

The entire cover is removable and machine washable, making your bed easy to keep clean and use for a long time. The cover comes in two pieces, so it’s easy to remove and put back on.

The soft cover has a timeless look with decorative details and a slightly wider headboard that gives the bed a unique look.

The strong and sturdy wooden legs made of solid oak enhance the warm and natural look of the bed frame.

The cover is made from the dope-dyed fabric Tibbleby of which at least 90% is recycled polyester. It has a slight lustre and a discreet herringbone pattern.

The soft, padded headboard is comfortable to lean against while reading or watching TV in bed.

You can easily vacuum under the bed frame to keep the space clean and dust-free.

The bed frame is easy to assemble and has a lightweight and sturdy construction

You can buy an additional cover separately – in the same style or with a different expression if you want some variety

The back of the headboard is finished with a gray fabric.

Combine this bed frame with a slatted bed base with a max. thickness of 4 cm to keep the slats hidden in the frame. The slats of a higher bed base may be visible along the sides of the bed.

buyer bewareOrliThis is the second Tarnkullen bed we have purchased from IKEA. Pros: the legs are recessed, allowing the headboard to sit flush with the wall - this is a great space-saver. The design is attractive. Cons: *decreased quality*. This bed has several flaws. 1. The legs of the bed have plastic floor protectors that are meant to be inserted into the bottom of each leg. The holes drilled into the legs are too small, and the plastic is too flimsy. Unless you know how to widen the hole using a drill, these plastic inserts are completely useless, and they buckle during insertion. 2. 4 black plastic L-shaped inserts are placed inside the frame to stop the slats from falling out. The holes drilled for these are too small. The holes are very close to the edge of the wood, so we would not recommend attempting to widen these. We were able to overcome this by wearing nitrile gloves and applying force. It should not be this difficult. 3. The upholstery is frayed - there is no excuse for that.2
Design flow for twin bedSerhiiAt an IKEA store this bad is wobbly, I believe due to inappropriately tall headboard. Such a tall headboard is not only making the bed wobbly within time; it also looks ugly, too tall for the twin-size bed.3

    "The idea with TÄRNKULLEN is to start with a robust bed frame and add covers that can be removed and washed. This way, the bed can be used for longer and continue to look fresh year after year. The covers I designed come in two styles – one that is snug and tight, another with a softer fit and a loose-hanging skirt. You can also switch covers if you want to change the style or just make a little tweak. No matter the cover, I want the bed to feel cozy, friendly and welcoming."
