Ratings and reviews

Wooden slatsDeannaGreat use for ventilation of bed on floor. I am very happy with the product.5
Compact and easy to put togetherRoseThese bed slats were easy to put together and did the trick when I had to replace my boxspring. However I did have to secure them down on my bed with strong adhesive tape as they were sliding off to the edge.4
I couldn't find any slatsJimmyI couldn't find any slats anywhere as low priced as these are.... others are 3 times the price of these. They are not perfect because they have some small splinters in the edges of the slats which in no way affects its performance... a quick rub down with some fine grain sandpaper will get rid of them if you choose to do so. The wood has some black mark imperfections, a couple of slats are stained a bit darker and 1 slat was not as curved as the others... slight cosmetic imperfections. These small issues should not deter anyone from purchasing these bed slats. Overall good quality and a price that can't be beat. They do exactly what they are meant to do and at the lowest price anywhere.4

ReplacementHollyThese were a replacement for half if my kind bed. The ribbon always breaks but I can’t argue with the price.3
Useless wood without the backordered bedJoannaOrdered with bed for delivery, this came, several days later I was told the bed is backordered for 1.5 months. Unattractive stack of wood has been a fixture in my living room since. Cumbersome to vacuum around and a huge trip hazard. DO NOT BUY if not immediately using with a bed frame. Also causing awkward conversation when guests come over.1
Elevates mattress and sleep - good value. Used for non-IKEA product.HelenI have been looking for a bedframe base for a NON-IKEA metal bed frame. My current frame has a very cheap particle board frame supported by 4-5 metal slats running horizonally (standing at foot of bed) . This slatted bed based works with the following adjustments. One, keep the current base, and put slats on top. Two, I used velcro strips and secured them in 8 spots (total 16 strip) that were attached to the underside of the slat and fixed to the current base. This kept the slats secured. Note that the product is two pieces. It is a decent price. However, I would have paid more if the wood strips were thicker and sanded down better. Careful when unpacking and installing as there are lots of rough pieces where you could get a wood splinter in your hands. The mattress is now slightly elevated and there is a definite improvement in support. 4
Picture is a bit deceivingVickiIt appears in the photo as if it’s 1 piece & you'd fold it out. It acttis 2 separate pieces. They don’t stay in place & the fabric in between the slates while strong isn’t firm enough to keep it straight.2
Too Noisy!KashafI am not happy with the loud sounds coming from these slats when trying to sleep. It defeats the purpose. 1
Had higher hopesKristynThe material is great but the slats don't really stay in place.3
Great product for the priceSarafaGreat product for the price5
Can't beat the valueJenniferThese are well made. I have used them on multiple beds and every time I try an alternative I have been disappointed. Can't beat the price for quality on these bed slats and they hold up great.5

5 starMaxIt was really easy to work with! And durable too. I also love the way it was packed when delivered to my door.5
Great base for a bedBenedicteI have used Ikea slatted bases for many, many beds in my lifetime. They are sturdy, travel well, and can even withstand some (mild) bed jumping by 4 children! They provide a solid, firm base for any mattress. The only reason these slatted bases would not stay in place is if you bought the wrong size, or if you did not construct your bed correctly.5
Too softMichaelI have these for a malm bed and they’re far too soft for my pillow top mattress. Unfortunately ikea Canada provides no other options for their beds.1
Really nice support for theArchuthanReally nice support for the mattress.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA we believe that sourced in a responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

What is layer-glued wood?

With layer-glued wood it’s possible to create flexible and extra strong constructions with curved shapes, like frames for armchairs. The secret is a technique where many layers of thin wood veneer are glued together and then pressed into the desired shape. We often use wood like birch, beech, ash and even bamboo – and strive to use the raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste. Just like solid wood, it has natural variations in structure and colour.
