How does IKEA's kitchen installation service work?
Installing a new kitchen is an exciting journey. To help everything go as smoothly as possible, it is useful to understand the process from start to finish. This five-step guide explains what our team will do and what you need to prepare for a successful kitchen installation.
1. Before you book — Plan for success
A successful installation starts with an accurate kitchen plan.
Your space must be ready before the installers arrive. Plan any construction or renovation work well in advance.
- Walls
- Windows
- Doorways
- Ceilings
- Flooring
You are responsible for obtaining any planning permissions, building permits or other required approvals for your project.
Think about whether you need support with other parts of your project. Separate services, such as countertop removal may be available to book with your installation.
2. Book and manage your installation service
Kitchen installation can only be booked through an IKEA Kitchen Specialist during your planning appointment.
- Discuss the installation service with you;
- Provide a detailed quotation based on your final kitchen plan; and
- Make sure a mandatory Pre-Installation Visit is booked.
If your plans change, you can reschedule or cancel your kitchen installation service.
- Installation appointments must be rescheduled at least 7 business days before the scheduled installation date.
- Rescheduling requests made within 7 business days of the installation date are subject to a $300 rescheduling fee.
- The Pre-Installation Visit can be rescheduled up to 24–48 hours before the appointment, depending on local scheduling availability, without a rescheduling fee.
- Contact IKEA Customer Service at least 48 hours before the installation start date to avoid applicable fees.
- If you cancel less than 48 hours before the appointment, or you are not on-site when the installer arrives, a fee will be charged to cover the installer’s wasted labour time.
3. Pre-Installation Visit — Confirming the details
- Check and verify your space: The installer will review your room measurements and conditions against the kitchen plan you approved.
- Identify supplementary work: The installer will let you know if work outside the kitchen installation service is needed, such as minor plumbing changes, electrical work or removal of an existing kitchen.
- Discuss additional work: The installer may be able to provide a written quote for supplementary work under a separate private agreement. You are not required to use the installer for this work and may choose another installer.
- Review the project timeline: The installer will discuss timing with you and make any necessary final adjustments to the plan.
- Be present: You must be available to discuss the kitchen plan and any potential issues with the installer.
- Review the plan carefully: You will be asked to review and sign the PIV form.
- Sign only when you are satisfied: Installation will be based on the signed PIV form. Do not sign until you are happy with the final plan.
- Ask questions: Discuss any questions about the visit with the installer first. Contact IKEA Customer Service only if further help is needed.
4. During installation — Bringing your kitchen to life
When your IKEA kitchen products arrive, check that all boxes, worktops and appliances have been delivered correctly and are not damaged.
Store your products
Place all flat-pack boxes and appliances in the room where the kitchen will be installed, or in an adjacent room. This helps ensure everything is ready for the installer.
- Install your kitchen: The installer will complete the work included in your service, from assembling cabinets to fitting worktops and installing IKEA appliances.
- Keep the workspace tidy: The installer will use clean work practices and aim to keep dust and disruption to a minimum.
- Provide safe access: Ensure the installer has clear, safe and uninterrupted access to the work area.
- Provide essential facilities: Make sure adequate power, lighting and heating are available so the installer can work safely and effectively.
- Protect your belongings: Move fragile items and cover furniture and floors in nearby areas with dust sheets or other protection.
5. After installation — Final steps and enjoyment
Inspect the completed installation with the installer.
Keep all assembly documents, instruction manuals and any spare parts provided.
You can now start enjoying your new kitchen, with the reassurance that your installation is covered by a 25-year workmanship guarantee.
