Try a loft bed for space-maximizing style

If space is limited, why not aim high when it comes to sleep and leave the floor space for living? Fitting a desk or sofa under a loft bed, or just going for a bunk bed with the bottom bunk as a chill-out zone doubles up the use of the space, as well as lifting the look into cool and cozy all in one.

When you find yourself running out of space, a loft bed that combines vertical bedroom storage and sleeping is a smart solution that doesn’t compromise on style. Or take advantage of the way bunk beds free up more floor space. Have one bed placed above the other, or fit other furniture - like desks and armchairs - into the space below the bed.

Loft bed or bunk bed: what is the difference?

Loft beds or bunk beds – which one suits your purposes? Let’s look at the differences.

Loft bed

A loft bed is a style of bed where the sleeping area is elevated, so the mattress is higher up from the floor level. This allows for more space underneath, where you can fit a bookcase, sofa, clothes rack or desk. Loft beds are typically more suitable for teenagers, or anyone living in a small apartment who wants to truly optimize their living space.

Bunk bed

When you’re sharing a room, a bunk bed is a great option. With one bed safely stacked above the other, two people can occupy the same sleeping space. The top bed is typically accessible with a ladder. Sharing a room has never been easier (or more space efficient). Bunk bed frames come in metal or wood and are usually a single bed size, ideally for kids. Draw straws to decide who gets the top bed!
