Our IKEA return policy
At IKEA, it's ok to change your mind. You have 365 days to return your purchase. Only applies to unopened, unused items in original packaging and in resaleable condition.
Returning unopened IKEA products
You can return any unopened IKEA product within 365 days for a full refund. Please bring your proof of purchase so we can process your return.
Returning opened IKEA products
We think everyone should be able to test certain products within a 60-day period. You may open and assemble the product to try it at home conditions apply, but must keeping all packaging. You will be issued with in-store credit to an IKEA Returns Card based on the assessed condition.
IKEA products that can’t be returned
Any custom-made products, as well as products that have been heavily used, dirty, damaged, stained &/or modified whilst within your possession. IKEA reserves the right to refuse a return (or exchange) whereby IKEA, in its sole discretion, suspects abuse of the return policy. This does not affect your rights under Australian Consumer law.

‘Love it or exchange it’ mattress exchange policy
‘Love it or exchange it’ is our IKEA 365 return policy for newly purchased mattresses. So if after a while you discover that it is too firm, too soft or too something else, just bring the mattress back and simply change it for another.
How to exchange an IKEA mattress
Simply bring your mattress and receipt to any IKEA store, and we’ll help you find a different one. If you want your mattress delivered back to IKEA, we’ll help you book a most reliable delivery service provider.
Things to note: IKEA mattress exchange
- You can exchange your mattress or mattress pad once within 365 days.
- The only condition is that it’s not dirty, marked or damaged.
- New mattresses often feel a bit too firm, so wait at least a month for your body to get used to the mattress and for the mattress to get used to your body.
- If your mattress exchange is an upgrade, you’ll just cover the price difference between the original and the replacement.
- If the replacement’s price is lower, we’ll credit the difference to an IKEA refund card.
- Customers arranging a collection from the store will be provided with a mattress bag to pack and seal the used mattress, before placing the package outside for collection at an arranged time.
- This return policy and our guarantee do not affect your statutory rights.
Custom-made work top policy
If you order a custom-made work top for your IKEA kitchen, you may cancel the order 24 hours before check and measure and receive a full refund of the fees paid.
If you do not proceed with the installation of your custom-made work top after check and measure but before fabrication begins, you will receive a refund of the fees paid minus the fees of check and measure service. No refund of the fees for the check and measure service rendered.
Once fabrication begins, you cannot be refunded for the cost of the custom-made work top or service fee unless IKEA agrees otherwise. You will incur the full cost of the production of your ordered custom-made work top and all services rendered including possible scrapping charges.
