Transitioning towards a circular business

We are working towards changing every aspect of what we do, from the way we source energy and materials to how we design our products and run our operations.

We’ve set high-reaching goals

  • By 2030, IKEA products are designed from the very beginning to be reused, repaired, refurbished and recycled, achieving an average circular fulfillment score across our entire product range of 90%, with at least half of our products scoring 100%.
  • By 2030, an absolute decoupling of virgin, non-renewable material use from IKEA business growth is achieved, with an increase in the share of recycled and renewable content in IKEA products to at least 90%.
  • By 2030, Circular services are designed and implemented in at least 80% of our markets, making it easier for people to reuse, repair, refurbish and recycle.

Many of our best ideas are recycled

Our ZEBRASÄV lamps put recycling at the heart of design. One is made with at least 50% recycled plastic, the other with at least 90% recycled paper pulp.

Waste as a resource

At IKEA, we hate wasting resources and are always looking for ways to make more from less. This applies to raw materials, energy and space. And we also know that waste can be a valuable resource. After all, waste is no longer waste if it’s given a second life.

On our way

As part of our journey to becoming a circular business we’re designing for a circular future.

Globally In 2019, we also gave 39 million recovered products a second life, 32 million products were resold through the As-is shop, and more than 8 million products were repacked and sold at affordable prices.
