Harmonize with textiles

Finding enough chairs and tables is always a challenge, let alone matching ones. Instead, use fabrics for tablecloths and other details to bind it all together – harmonizing any mix of furniture, your own or borrowed.

Hang flowers and lights together

Combining lighting and flowers sets the mood, for the day and the evening. (To carry any extra weight, be sure to reinforce lighting chains with fishing line or similar.) And with artificial flowers, you can use them again for wedding anniversaries, too.

Decorate from the ground up

An easy way to boost the effect of your decorations is to think about the room in layers: bottom, middle, top. Unused floor space will come alive with lanterns and flowers, then build from there.

Mix and match, and mix some more

Once you get going, there’s no need to hold back. Juicy colors and brave patterns tend to go well together, even if they don’t match to begin with. Above all, mix!

Napkins can be decorative, too

Long dinners require extra napkins. Take the opportunity to create a patchwork with mixed colors and patterns, and use layers and placing for extra effect.

Seating fit for center stage

If you don’t have thrones to spare, make them yourself. With minor alterations, ordinary chairs can be made into seating worthy of royalty and newlyweds alike.

Leaves, ribbons and more

Add details that go along with the theme, or the festive occasion, or both. For a wedding with a tropical feel, ribbons, leaves (artificial or real) and some love is all it takes.

Clothes racks as a wedding gate

Place a clothes rack or two at the entrance. Draped in fabric, they can set the mood right at the start. You can leave warming throws on the racks for guests to use when they go out for some fresh air.
