How to create an accent wall

Start with a functional item
If you have completely bare walls to begin with, we find it's helpful to start with a wall accent that also serves a practical purpose, such as a decorative mirror. As you grow in your decorating journey there will be plenty of space to fill in with purely decorative pieces.
Use existing pieces as your starting point
If you already have wall hangings in the room and you like their location, consider branching out from there. For example, let’s assume you have a poster or piece of large wall art that you love hanging above your sofa. Browse our wall hangings and accents to see which would coordinate well with that piece. To start with, you can consider adding one accent on either side of the larger piece, or opt for a unique look that is asymmetrical.
Draw up a decorating plan from the start
