What is rattan?

Rattan belongs to the palm family and climbs along trees, though no trees are required to be felled when the rattan cane is harvested. It’s something we wanted to change with SALNÖ rattan armchair. Since it’s both handmade and machine-made, we can fit this curvy piece of furniture in a flat package. It means you have to assemble it yourself, but it also makes SALNÖ easier to transport – all the way from the artisans to your home.

"When I designed SALNÖ armchair, I wanted to keep the beauty and traditional braiding of rattan and combine it all with our DNA – the flat package. Every part is still created by hand, every angle is thoroughly calculated and every rattan cane in the seat and back is adapted to give you the best possible comfort. Yet in the end, you are the one who puts the parts together into a complete armchair – created by nature, refined by skilled hands and completely unique."
