• Create zones in your pantry and group items that are alike. This looks attractive and also makes things easier to find. Use containers to group smaller items. So, instead of sorting through an entire shelf, you can look in a particular container.
• You should have shelves that are not too deep to store smaller items. Store small items on smaller shelves and larger items on deeper shelves. An average shelf depth of about 12 inches is good for a pantry. If the shelves are too deep, you may have too many rows of items. Some shelves should be 16 to 20 inches in depth to hold larger items and packages.
• The average pantry is 5 feet by 5 feet. Well designed storage shelves help you make the best of the space.
• Add a recycling area to your pantry so that you can recycle packaging as soon as you empty it of its ingredients.
• Use see-through tubs and wire baskets generously so that you can look at what they contain without needing to pull them out first.
• Add pullout wine racks and bottle holders to store wine bottles horizontally rather than vertically.
• Labelling everything in the pantry is a good idea, especially if you transfer items to containers after buying them.
• Add narrow shelves to pantry doors so that you can store lightweight items within easy reach.
• Sort through and reorganise your pantry regularly to ensure that it is always neat and tidy. Purge items that are past date or that you do not use often.
