  • The rug is hand-woven.

    You will need 2 STOPP FILT rug underlay with anti-slip (5'5"x7'9") for this rug. Trim if necessary.

    Sometimes the material has a smell when the rug is new. This is only natural and the smell will disappear over time. Airing and vacuuming the rug will help to eliminate the smell faster.

    Remove dried spots immediately by scraping carefully towards the middle of the spot.

    Do not rub wet spots. Absorb moisture with paper towels, and clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent.

    Professional carpet cleaning when needed.

    Always use the standard floorhead, never the rotating brush, when vaccuming the rug.

so much debrisJenniferI understand this is a hand-woven wool rug but it is thoroughly ridiculous how much dried grass or wheat or whatever plant material is woven into the fabric. I've dropped literally thousands of dollars on ikea rugs over the years, including $1700 on a wool Afghani rug, and have never had a problem. Took it out of the packaging yesterday, and I spent an hour today vacuuming and plucking little bits of plant material out of it. Much of it is still visible but I can't work it out without ruining the weave of the rug. $400 CAD is a great deal for such a large wool rug, but not if it means a good percentage of the make-up is dried grass that either didn't get washed from the sheep's wool (which, HOW?? It's literally dyed!) or the folks weaving it left it in to add weight to save on manufacturing costs. Ikea needs to do some quality control on this one. 2
I love this rugEricThis rug is amazing. The colour and pattern looks great in person, and the texture of the fabric really seems to adr something to the space. Underfoot it is quite nice, it's slightly rough but that creates a very pleasant tactile feel. The thickness is just right and i don't find it bunches up much at all, and the creases from where it was folded disappear within a day. It's easy to vacuum as well because it's flat. The size is huge so you can easily cover a whole living area with it.5
Stockholm rugAmberLove how big the rug is. Love the material as well, and the colours. The only negative was that it was very slippery in our floor so I had to go out and buy a rubber pad for it to lay on so it wouldn’t slip. Otherwise great product. 4

There are also a few uneven threads, but in general it looks great, and feels warm underfoot. The colours are bold and suite the space we have it in.4

What is wool?

Wool is a practical natural material that usually comes from sheep. The raw wool is washed and then spun into yarn. Wool rugs have many advantages. They're soft, warm and comfortable to walk on, and they're also very hardwearing. They're stain-resistant too, because wool has it own natural oil. This means that dirt stays on the surface and doesn't penetrate into the rug. All wool rugs shed - some more, some less - vacuum them regularly to prevent the loose fibers from scattering.

Form design process

Made using the handloom weaving technique

In a handloom, horizontal strands (the weft), are woven over and under vertical strands (the warp), repeatedly until the rug is complete. Depending on the complexity of the design, producing a rug with this technique can take from a few days up to several weeks. Unlike other techniques, such as hand-tufting, a handloom does not produce a pile, rather it creates an even and flat surface. This technique allows for intricate designs and patterns and the rugs tend to be lightweight yet durable. They are also reversible and easy to clean, making them a practical and popular choice.
