Where belonging inspires growth

Originally from Syria, Heba arrived in Australia in 2019 with her family after spending time in Iraq following the outbreak of war.

While completing her studies in Architecture, Heba joined IKEA through the Refugee Workforce Inclusion program in 2022, starting as a Sales Co-worker. From her first day, she felt welcomed and supported by her manager and team, quickly building a sense of belonging.

Over the past few years, Heba has continued to grow, moving from Sales into an Interior Design role and now into Visual Merchandising at IKEA North Lakes. ‘When I started at IKEA, I realised there were so many opportunities to grow, and in roles that align with my passion and qualification. That’s why I stayed.’

For Heba, growth is not only about professional development, but also about connection and purpose. ‘I’m proud of everything I’ve learned, both personally and professionally. When you work in an environment where you feel respected and trusted, you grow.’

Heba has also seen how inclusion creates better experiences for both co-workers and customers. Speaking Arabic has allowed her to support customers who may not speak English confidently, helping them feel understood and supported.

Today, Heba is focused on continuing to build her career at IKEA, taking on new opportunities as they arise.Her advice to others is simple: stay open, take opportunities, and back yourself to grow.

‘When we all feel like we belong, we grow together.’
