Let’s get sorted for less waste and more taste

Deep down, we are all foodies. It’s a great club to belong to, but we don’t want to waste the produce we’ve bought or delicious food we’ve made. Let’s store and save our food in a better way. Join us and let’s get sorted with organising our fridges, freezers, cupboards and pantries so we waste less food together.

Smart planning and food storing = less waste

Planning meals before you shop is a simple way to reduce food waste and save money. Start by checking your fridge or pantry for what you already have – that way you can use older items first.

Next, plan meals around those ingredients. Leftover veggies? Turn them into a stir-fry or salad. Extra pasta? Pair it with a quick sauce. Building meals from what you have not only saves money but also ensures it doesn’t end up at the back of the fridge.

Set the humidity of your crisper drawers for the right produce. Leafy greens, broccoli, berries, carrots and cucumbers need high humidity to prevent wilting and shrinkage. Thick-skinned fruits like apples, pears and avocados or stone fruits like apricots, peaches and plums can be stored at low humidity or outside the fridge.

Finally, write a shopping list based on your plan and stick to it. Impulse buys often end up uneaten. A focused list keeps you on budget and reduces unnecessary purchases.

Plenty of yum for later

Do you eat with your eyes and then you forget about the fresh fruit and veggies you bought? We have a solution – rinse and dry them and then divide them in to-go portions in ISTAD resealable bags. You can even save them in the fridge or freezer to use for cooking or dessert later. Yum!

And if you like bringing a packed lunch, UTBJUDA stackable lunch boxes will be your new best friend. Add your favourite sandwich to one box and fruit to the next box as a snack.

If soup is more your game, an EFTERFRÅGAD vacuum food flask will be your new best friend. It will keep your soup warm for lunch no matter where you are.

Leftovers for everyone!

Don’t let the yumminess go to waste. Just finishing your barbecue or dinner party and notice that you have too much food? Then don’t let your guests go home empty-handed. Share the love. Portion up what’s left so everyone goes home with something delicious. That way, nothing goes to waste and everyone is happy because all that goodness they enjoyed today can be savored tomorrow too! Or why not have a leftover pot-luck? Invite friends to bring their favourite leftovers so everyone can try something new. More tasty food for everyone (and less food wasted)!

Put a label on it

Whether you’re organising your pantry with dry food or saving perishable food for later in your fridge or freezer, label your containers with what they contain and when you stored it. That way, you always know how fresh it is without having to guess. Remember to check the dates on your containers often. Move the oldest food to the front, so you’ll be sure to use it first and save the newest for later.

Avoiding food waste can save time and money

Eliminating food waste is super easy if you make sure you can see what you have, label it with the date you purchased, store what you don’t need to eat right now and save it for later. That way, nothing goes to waste, and you save time and money.
