        Shattered and caused stitches from a 25cm fall off the microwaveOllieWould not recommend. This fell 25cm from the top of the microwave onto the kitchen bench, shattered, and led to a trip to the emergency room and 3 stitches. I understand that glass is not going to be as robust as plastic, but for it to shatter so easily and explosively is really disappointing (and dangerous).1

        Solid food storage solutionLaraBy now, almost everyone in the world knows about, or owns, an IKEA food container, or 15. I've still got some of the while plastic with maroon plastic lids in service, but they look pretty bad at this point. Enter, the glass food storage container. It does exactly what it says on the box, but comes with two options for lids. One plastic, one wooden. And here's our problem as consumers: It's actually really hard to buy both the glass base, and the style of lid you want, from the same store, on the same day. I get that lids get lost - far more often than the bases do. The lids are probably hiding out with all the left socks. It would be super awesome if IKEA would supply these things as a 3-piece set for every different-sized item in the range. One container and two lids. No discount. Just a guarantee you get what you want (unless sold out...) Eg, you buy the 1 litre glass base, and attached (firmly) to it are the two tips. Call it the "1 litre starter pack".5

        Material

        What is glass?

        Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
