Amazing valueChrisI love cooking with this.
Ignore reviews whining about rust, staining, or poor performance. It's carbon steel, not Teflon. Expect rust if you let it air-dry unprotected from oxygen. A thin oil film post-cooking and proper seasoning (using high smoke point oil) transform it into a lifetime workhorse.
Once patina builds, it delivers a slick, naturally non-stick surface ideal for searing, sautéing, and daily cooking on induction or gas. Treat it like cast iron: learn heat control, use a bit of oil or butter, and food slides off effortlessly. Wash after cooking until it's mirror smooth. Dry immediately after washing (stovetop for 1 minute if needed), then wipe on a scant oil layer. It needs a bit of care but rewards with unmatched durability at a fraction of the cost of other brands.5
Fantastic Pan!!HarrisonThis thing is great, all the reviews talking about rust are from hilariously bad/dumb cooks.
the included seasoning instructions are extremely incorrect, and will fail 100% of the time
season it properly and enjoy5
Good pan for the experiencedPhuongIf you know how to season a carbon steel / castiron pan, this is a good pan for you. It's quickly become my favorite pan to use for quick meals. Ignore the bad reviews, they're mostly from people who are not familiar with carbon steel and expect the same performance as teflon pan. The price is honestly hard to beat, so try it if you're on the fence.5
Amazing value, but needs warning for ppl not familiar with carbon steelJeongI've always wondered why carbon steel pans—such a basic, cheap material—are often sold for well over $100. This is super affordable (like, under 1/3 of the price of others this size); has perfect sides for flipping; is much thicker than expected, for significant thermal mass; and is looking like it's quite resistant to warping.
But seeing reviews saying it discolours or rusts... these reviewers clearly do not know about carbon steel pans and would not enjoy the process of learning how to season the pan and maintain it. It's for enthusiasts who like a material that can do a hard sear like stainless, but can also develop a non-stick seasoning layer, and don't mind spending hours developing the seasoning layer, and them some to maintain it.
Utterly phenomenal that IKEA can retail this for $30. My only complaint is that you only have a single 28cm pan. Add a couple of smaller sizes, and I'm back to get more 👍5
Rust appeared after just a few days of useHuyI bought this pan on Saturday and used it only a couple of times, but it already developed rust and stains even though I washed and dried it properly after each use. The surface looks very uneven and discolored, which makes it hard to cook and clean. I expected better quality from IKEA, especially for a pan that’s supposed to be durable. Very disappointed with this purchase.1
Bad qualityTabeaI actually will come back with it and complain about this product . Used it twice and frying pan is stained . Looks very unhygienic and old .
For that price they should hold up the looks much better1
Hard to use - wouldnt recommend to anyoneXuan LoiI bought and followed instructions closely to season - house was full of smoke for an hour at least. It was beautifully charcoal black after seasoning and a few uses after that was good. But after some more uses, the coating flaked off/peeled off and it starting sticking to food. So I had to scrub them off to start reseasoning - but it was damage easily and started to rust off. Now it has to go straight to the bin. A product that started like a strong one now in the bin. Would like to try using another one to see where I went wrong with it but honestly $29 wasted doesnt sound good. 2
RustyAnonymous reviewerThis product went rusty within a week of use. Would not recommend.1
Ridiculous valueMaxA solid 2.1kg carbon steel pan for $39? I don't know how they can do this.
Works really well, although the handle could be lower. But at this price, who could complain about anything.
Pro tip: Don't follow IKEA's instructions on seasoning it at 150°. I did it at 250° and the paint on the handle was fine. Best to finish it on a gas burner, though.5
Carbon steelCtStill greasy oil in the fry pan. Good but can be much better.3
