Quality fabrication, beautiful natural colourTabithaI first bought a bunch of Sortsö rugs around four years ago when they were $5 each. I was annoyed that they had raised the prices since then, but they are still great value. These rugs are quite beautiful in an understated way, the natural unbleached colour is a lovely off-white and the weaving is minimalistic and elegant. Being white cotton, it will become quite dirty so I wash mine on a gentle wash with a natural laundry detergent which works beautifully, although the care instructions advise that it’s not machine washable, which I’m assuming is because of the fringing on the ends, which does tend to shed a little when machine washed, but it isn’t excessive and it doesn’t make a difference to the look of it.

As Expected.DeborahThis little cotton rug is what it is and perfect for what I purchased it to do. Being a cheaper cotton woven item I expected it to shrink when washed, and it did, which is fine for my needs. Also, once washed, it has a rippled texture according to the weave pattern, and I do not mind that at all, meaning it is not uniformally flat, which I like anyway. One could iron it fully flat if wanted. With washing, the fringe edge needed some pulling to re-tidy it, not a problem. One could make many other items with these neutral little rugs.

Do not buy!CourtneyI'm surprised that the reviews for this rug are mostly good, If I could give it 0 stars I would. This rug is not 100% cotton like IKEA claims. There are black and brown plastic-like bits all through the rug. Some of these plastic-like bits have come off while being washed and have been dispersed all through our washing machine. You can see the brown/black plastic-like bits in the photos online, but I thought these were just variations in the cotton, they are not, you can pick them off with your hands are they feel like plastic. Tried to get a refund but IKEA has made it so difficult that it's just not worth it.

What is cotton?
Cotton is a practical and hardwearing natural material. It comes from the seed capsule of the cotton plant, which forms small wads when it blooms. Cotton rugs are easy to care for, because you can wash them in an ordinary washing machine and they can stand high temperatures. Cotton is heavy when wet, so it's important to check that your machine has enough weight capacity. It's also good to know that cotton may shrink, so you may have to stretch the rug a bit after you've washed it.
