BILLY: a popular viking name or an IKEA co-worker?

Our number one furniture product, the BILLY bookcase, is named after an IKEA co-worker, Billy Liljedahl, who wanted a 'proper bookcase' that was both attractive and timeless. BILLY was designed in 1979 by Gillis Lundgren, IKEA’s fourth employee, and it’s estimated that a BILLY bookcase is sold somewhere in the world every five seconds.
