MehAmandaNot great, need a bunkie board with it otherwise the mattress just goes through the slats even with the mesh there. Squeaks a lot. Good if you’re on a tight budget but definitely get a bunkie board. I was able to put it together by myself but the ladder is a pain to try to get on.
2/5AshleyThe bed is good if you're looking for short term. Eventually the screws start to get loose, makes a creaking noise, shakes a ton with the smallest movements and doesn't seem safe. The orange stoppers on the end of the ladder feet will stain floors and carpets.

The issue started prior to a year old and I’ve been fighting with it by trying to pin it down with rope and tried to fluff up the carpet so it grips but it just won’t hold. The mesh netting that is part of the mattress support tore during installation, and the screws stripped out or the holes were too large, so I could never get a tight fit.

A decent and necessary piece of furniture. I am looking for a way to reinforce this bed, as I doubt it holds 220 lbs at this point. WYesterday was my 3rd time assembling this bed, and this time I did it all by myself, without any aids! The trick is to build it all on its side on the floor, and tip it up vertically once it’s mostly built. It did take at least 6 hrs, though — even though I was only disassembling it enough to move it next door.
One warning, though — please immediately remove all of the fabric, as it’s prime bedbug habitat! Seriously, one frenzied night I found that a whole population of bedbugs had taken residence in the netting, so I had to immediately cut out and bag every inch of it with scissors and knives. The bed works fine without it, and the bedbugs have not returned since.
I agree that the included hardware is unnecessarily tricky, which is why I wish they had included some extras in case the parts get stripped or bent as well as lost. (I had to deal with all three). I also don’t know why the bed rails on the ladder side are designed to be wobbly (which is a but disconcerting).
omg so good TaylorSo I bought this for my child and she loves it. This is such a good bed. She put it under her couch and it looks so good together. If you put this at the edge it will fall but still so amazing. The only problem is that the ladder is wiggly but my daughter doesn't care. Buy it!
7 years and still TUFF.SviSo, it takes some intelligence to put it together. Main thing is don’t tighten the screws until all of the pieces are together. Thread all the curved steel through the fabric first.
I’ve taken this apart and back together multiple times (by myself )and if you try to put it together upright , you will hate it.
My kids love it.
Only problem is that I can’t get replacement parts for it anymore because I lost the bracket that holds the ladder on, and the steps on the ladder are too thin to be comfortable on the feet. The grip tape also fell off. I would say that the ladder design and placement is the only regret with this bed. Everything else is great.

Wish we bought a different bed. This didn’t last long at all. Only thing I can think of doing is rebuilding it with locktite in every screw but it really sucked to build it the first time. What a nightmare.

Review of the IKEA Tuffing Loft Bed: Testing and Strengthening Our RelationshipMelinehAh, the IKEA Tuffing loft bed. If you're looking for an adventure in relationship building, this is the piece of furniture for you. My partner and I have assembled our fair share of IKEA products, but this one took the cake—and nearly our sanity.
First off, the instructions. I've never seen anything so convoluted. IKEA, you outdid yourself. The only parts labeled were the four poles, stamped with numbers. If you can stamp those, why not the rest? Seriously, throw us a bone here! We assembled and reassembled this bed no less than five times to get the correct pieces in the correct places.
The S-shaped wrench was a nice touch, a small consolation prize in this epic saga. It felt like an upgrade from the traditional L-shaped wrench, though by the end, I felt I could have used a whole new set of tools (and nerves).
Building the slats with that rod—oh, the rod! Imagine trying to thread a needle with your feet while blindfolded. I used every curse word I know in multiple languages. The rod kept sliding out of place, turning me into a frustrated, multilingual sailor.
Then there’s the fabric. One long, continuous piece of soft, lovely fabric. It must be looped over cold, unbending steel bars. It’s like trying to dress a very uncooperative mannequin in a single piece of clothing. Delightful.
One of the main problems? The holes at the ends of the rods. They look like they belong at the bottom in the instructions, but surprise—they should be at the top. It’s a minor detail, really, just one that added hours to our assembly time.
We left the bed 70% done on day one. The slats were incredibly frustrating to handle. I followed the instructions, but that long metal rod just wouldn't stay in place. On day two, I did what any desperate assembler would do: I looked up a video of someone else successfully assembling the slats. Follow the video, folks—save your sanity.
In the end, my husband and I decided to stay together. We now have a new understanding of our limits and understandings. This bed gets four stars, only because of the number of times we had to reassemble it. The Tuffing loft bed tested us, but it didn’t break us. Plus, the kid loves it.
Maximize your livable spaceAerynAs a young adult redoing their small bedroom, a loft bed is a lifesaver. I have so much more space now. There is ample room underneath for a desk and chair or whatever else you want to use it for. If you use your phone in bed frequently just make sure you buy a long charging cord!
It took 3 people (a 3rd can help at certain steps like tightening the frame) about 2 and a half hours, and it was a fairly easy process.
The most difficult parts for us were: 1. Threading the bars through the netting (just go slow and adjust/reposition the netting if the bar gets stuck). 2. Attaching the mattress support bars (we had one person adjusting the position of the bar and one adjusting the netting and screwing it in).
I bought a thicker mattress than is recommended (I have chronic back pain and need good support), but I have no doubts about my safety. If you need more support or are getting it for an older child, consider getting a slightly better mattress, just make sure everyone feels safe.
A Nightmare to AssembleMonaI’ve always absolutely HATED Ikea furniture and the instructions are exactly why. The instructions are ALWAYS unclear. You gotta follow pictures that aren’t even clear depictions of the parts. They need to work on improving all their manuals. My two brothers and I worked on it for 5 freakin hours and still didnt finish building it. And the bars that go across between the two sides to hold the mattress, it is SO UNCLEAR on how that was supposed to be put on, so we have to unscrew each pole and fix it and screw it back. It’s a little concerning & intimidating how high up the bed is, it’s like over 6ft. But it’s sturdy and can hold weight. I even tried shaking the frame in the store to see if it was wobbly and it wasn’t, which I didn’t assume it to be bc i doubt any store would sell something they could receive a lot of lawsuits for.
Nice and SturdyArmaniOnly took me and my brother to finish this in a maybe 2 hours. You need to carefully read it, as it was easy to mistake one piece for the other. The parts with the mesh was fairly easy if you know what to do. They do give you a small example on how to do it but it's not obvious. Instructions were pretty much clear for the most part. We also tested it by being on top of it. So it can carry around 260lbs (I weigh 120lbs and my brother is 140lbs). Overall, good price and very sturdy bedframe!

A dream and a nightmare EsmeraldaListen, we picked up this at 5 in the afternoon and got home at 6 pm. Three people started the process to assemble this bed and we didn’t finish all. It was almost 11 pm and everyone was so stressed (only the frame where the bed goes and the stairs were missing by then) that we gave up and did the rest the next day. The next day…if you thought it was going to be easy just because the frame where the bed goes and the stairs were missing…you are WRONG…three more people and two hours later (after blood, sweat and tears) we finished…never again…I should’ve read the reviews before…and also looks sturdy. I tried it, works fine, as intended. I looked up in the internet supposedly hold up to 220 lbs.
What you save by purchasing this bed outweighs the effort and time it takes to assemble it.

A bed for new perspectives
Life is pretty good here at the top of the bed. Teasing younger siblings can be kept at a distance, and when mum or dad says good night, the height is just perfect for a hug. Both bunk beds and loft beds are good choices when you want to create more space in a smaller area. With TUFFING, we also managed to make more bed from less material.
We made TUFFING bunk bed and loft bed of stable steel and mesh fabric, and somewhat lower than other bunk beds. It means less use of material and that each bed weighs less to transport.
Kids don't think about safety so we do.
By centering the ladder, the loft bed became more stable. The ladder also serves as a guard rail for the bunk bed – because children’s beds should be safe places, no matter if you are in the middle of play or deep in the world of dreams. That is why our children’s beds undergo rigorous furniture tests. The industry’s safety standards are very strict, but we take it further. When working with TUFFING, we focused especially on avoiding gaps and openings where small hands and feet can easily get stuck. When we had a model of the bed, it underwent two weeks of intense fatigue tests where the bed frame was continuously exposed to strong forces.
