Mixed 3.5TonyOriginally purchased the KIVIK around 7/8 years ago for eight and change. The idea of removable covers was part of the appeal. Looking back it didn't make a difference. Prone to shrinking and dye fading even on cold washes or soaks.
The fit of covers vs cushion was noticeable when we first assembled it. Comfort on sofa and chaise decreased within 1-2 years (mild complaints about back cushions). After 3-4 minor our discomfort level increased (cushions/lack of firmness overall). After 5+ its simply uncomfortable in the same ways that a dorm sofa bed would feel.
For the 'then' price, design and modular potential it was a worthwhile purchase. Today, I would look at the other reviews based on current price points. 4
Save yourself! You don't get what you pay forAishwaryaTerrible sofa. Bought it in grey..
Had threads coming out of the fabric
Difficult to assemble.
The parts don't fit together.
Not what I expect after paying 1500
No central support for a 3 seater sofa ..
Cushions come with varying degrees of fluffiness.1
So comfortable! JenniferThe couch was a little rough to put together but I got it eventually. It is by far the most comfortable couch I’ve ever sat on. I always take my naps on it and it’s large enough for the whole family to lounge on. Fabric is perfect for clean up if it’s just pet hair. I have a chomchom roller and it gets it up with no issue. I was on the fence with the purchase but I have no regrets. I’d 100% buy it again, but it comes with a 10th ear warranty so I probably won’t even have to. No creaking or sinking.
A note, it’s slightly on the firm side, so you don’t sink into it as much as other couches. Perfect amount of support for my husband and I who both have bad backs.5
I love my KIVIKKriziaBest sofa ever!!! Gorgeous, comfy 10/105
Extremely uncomfortableAnonymous reviewerI've sat on rocks more comfortable than this. We based our purchase on the floor model, and what came to my house is a seemingly different couch. IT IS PAINFUL TO SIT ON. 1
Not worth itYveThere were nice reviews on this sofa, one stood out and now I have to agree w the one review.
I needed a sofa that I could switch out the covers (dog mom) and settled on the kivik. Be aware that the seams on the cushion covers do not align w cushions, the seams on the covers are smaller in width than actual cushions. Some furniture pieces do not align perfectly either. There is a piece of wood jutting out where the chaise and sofa meet. Am I disappointed? Very much so. I want to return it, but don't know if it's worth the hassle of taking it apart and renting a van and lugging everything to the store. 1

Firm, but comfortable and attractiveClaireI purchased this couch in November 2024, so I've only had it for two months. But I wanted to write this review to offer my initial impressions, for anyone that might be debating getting this couch. Overall, I'm happy we got the Kivik.
Yes, it's very firm, but my husband and I think it's very comfortable. He's 5'10 and I'm 5'1. We watch a lot of TV on it.
Assembly took about 4 hours and was annoying. I wish I'd paid someone else to assemble it.
The fabric I got was Tallmyra white/black. I looked at all the fabric options in the store, and I thought this was the softest one. Highly recommend. This couch is much more attractive than I expected.
I have two cats and a toddler, and the Kivik offers so much peace of mind. My cats have already started scratching the fabric, and it's not really visible. I like knowing that any damage to the sofa cover can be fixed with a replacement, instead of having to toss this one in the landfill and get a new couch. For the price, it's a solid couch.4
Returned immediatelyAnonymous reviewerI'm not sure why there are so many good reviews on this sofa, perhaps people are reviewing a previous version of this? I purchased this recently, and sure, the shipping process was pretty straightforward and the assembly instructions were clear, but man, this couch is real bad. As we were assembling it knew I was building something I was going to hate. The covers themselves are extremely scratchy. The cushion covers don't align with the cushions and make the couch look boxy, uneven, and cheap. You can feel the springs on the chaise. It was so bad I was chatting with customer service same day to get a refund started. Save yourselves and don't get it! Ikea I hope you fix this!!2
Very pleasedLisaThis is our 2nd KIVIK sofa. The one in our family room is about 6 yrs old. We loved it so much we got another for the living room. It is easy to assemble, solid construction and very comfortable! 5
instant regret (returned the next day)SharanI bought this sofa without seeing it because a friend has had it for a few years. Looks like I faced the same issue as others - something in the manufacturing process for this sofa has changed because it was so ugly and poorly made. It came in 8 separate boxes, took 4 hours to put together, and when it was all done, the cover seams didn't line up with the edges of the cushions and the cushions themselves were misshapen. I called Ikea the next day to schedule a return pickup. The sofa itself was pretty comfortable (I prefer a firmer sofa), but it was atrocious to look at. Would not recommend, because even if you return it, there are hours of your life you will never get back.2
Extremely UncomfortableJessicaI took two hours to put this together to have immediate buyers remorse. The couch cushions are hard as a rock and the cover material is super scratchy. I purchased this based off of past reviews for the older Kivik, and I should have paid attention to the newer ones which seem to have similar bad reviews.
Unfortunately, I had to take it apart and pay $69 to return it.

It’s Great!JoshuaI bought this Kivik in the Tresund Light Beige without seeing it in store. I’m happily surprised with how nice it is. Assembly took me by myself about 2.5 hours. It wasn’t anything too difficult. The couch is really nice and it seems to be very sturdy and durable. The tresund beige looks amazing and to me was worth the extra $$.
— Cons —
The fabric of the tresund beige might be prone to snags and tears if you have pets.
The cushions are pretty dang firm right out of the box, however they have already started breaking in so I’m sure they will loosen up to the “medium firm”.4
Instant Buyer's RemorseJonathanAfter some recent bad experiences with IKEA, I should've trusted my gut and not pulled the trigger on this sofa. I know the cushions are supposed to be broken in over a few weeks or months, but in the meantime they're uncomfortable firm and it makes the couch a chore to sit on. Not looking forward to weeks or months of discomfort in an effort to break it in, so I will likely return the couch. The floor model (predictably, I guess) was way more comfortable to the point of being misleading. The cushions are also noisy (a cheap crinkling sound). On the plus side, the couch looks nice. Love the color of the turquoise corduroy fabric.3
Lovely color, good comfort, and easy assembly.BrynnaI bought the KIVIK sofa with chaise in gray-turquoise. I was able to assemble this on my own in about 2-3 hours without any trouble. I love the material for this specific color (with corduroy-like texture). The chaise is very wide and great for lounging around. Definitely recommend for a cute and comfy sofa that can be assembled in one afternoon! 5
Lasted 10+ yearsJessicaWe bought this couch in 2012 and it's still going, through 2 dogs and a move. It has sunk a little where we sit but we're not tiny people and it's an Ikea couch. Very happy with the purchase, we definitely got our money's worth.5
CouchNatalieWe bought this couch in Nov of 22. At first we loved it, with two active dogs being able to wash the covers about once a month has been great. For smell and dirt. It is comfortable and perfect size. We even bough the ottoman. Getting the covers on it is a workout and near impossible at some points but I appreciate I could wash everything. Then we started to notice that the inserts started getting dirty and pieces start to come off. They haven’t lost their comfort. The covers have start to rip in multiple locations. I have had to sew up sections to keep it functional. It’s almost like the covers are slightly too small for the inserts so the tension is just too much for the seams. The fabric is really pilling and looks rough. Today I noticed that the back is coming loose and I can shift it. The couch is taken care of and I didn’t expect this degradation so soon into owning it. 3
Great couch!MadisonI love this couch! I got it in the dark grey. I am 5'2" and 112 lbs and put the whole thing together myself. I did have to wait a week after delivery for parts since the parts for the sofa part were not in the box. It's perfect and so comfy! I love the chaise, although the back cushion on the chaise is not as firm as the other back cushions. I did figure out the trick to get the chaise bottom cushion to sit right. There is velcro near the foot of the chaise. The best way I found is to lift that part up (I do it myself, but would be easier with a second person). While holding the bottom off the velcro, lift the top up. Line up the bottom and put it down lined up, then push the top down. It's even comfier after doing it this way. I did buy a cover for the couch from Amazon (brand was Easy Going) since I have a dog who sneaks on the couch when I'm not home and a 9 year old boy. 5
Beware of new Kivik covers, wear out in less than a yearTaraWe bought a Kivik sofa in 2019. It was the 6th Ikea sofa we have purchased. The benefit of Ikea sofas is the washable/replaceable covers. After 3 years of use, the back of the chaise lounge cushion cover started to rip. We bought a new cover in December of 2022. They had significantly changed the covers, but we bought the one closest to what we had, a medium gray. The material is scratchy and the cover does not look as good as the original. After 6 months of use, there is visible wear. We tried exchanging it and they wouldn't let us because 6 months had passed. Ikea quality has gone down and prices have gone up. This causes us pause to buy anything else that costs more than $20 from Ikea. Once a fan, now very disappointed. 1
DissapointedAllisonWe purchased the Kivik chaise sofa at Christmas. It already looks terrible. From the start, I noticed that whilst the sofa section looked good, you could see, from day 1, the springs in the chaise through the fabric. It's just not comfortable. No amount of pushing, plumping etc can stop the chaise from overhanging the end of the sofa, so it always looks untidy. The back cushions are also not holding up well. We've had other ikea sofas we've been very happy with. Sadly not the Kivik.1
