Hard as rocksJenniferI've sat on more comfortable rocks. The KIVIK on the floor of my local IKEA feels like a different sofa than the one we received. Now I have to load a sectional on my trailer and drive it 45 minutes back to the store. I'm grateful IKEA gives you 6 months to do this, but better if they didn't falsely advertise this couch to begin with.2
Quality sofaMorganHave had this couch for 4 years and 5 apartments. Has held up wonderfully and is still super comfortable if you like a medium firm couch. The fabric is not durable for kitty claws, but has also held us relatively well!5
Not as expectedSaraWe bought this after buying a Kivik sectional 2 years ago and testing out the floor model which were both soft and comfortable. These cushions are very firm and stiff and not at all like the sectional we own. Much less comfortable than we were expecting and haven't softened much in the few months we've owned it unfortunately.3
So hard and uncomfortable!GraceMy roommate had one of these sofas back in 2012 and it was very comfortable. I wanted to replace my uncomfortable Wayfair loveseat, so I tried the Kivik in my local IKEA, and it was as comfortable as I remembered, so I ordered one.
I am immediately stricken with buyers remorse. This is the hardest sofa I’ve ever sat on. It has absolutely no “sink in” feeling or softness. It feels like sitting on a bench. I’ve stomped all over the cushions hoping to soften them, but no such luck. It looks like other reviewers have had similar experiences and say the cushions don’t soften much, even years later. The slipcovers were almost impossible to get on without ripping them. The cushion inserts are definitely not memory foam. I got the matching ottoman, and it’s even harder than the couch. Overall, I’m very disappointed, and I doubt the expense of renting a truck to return it will be worth it. I’m hoping it will soften overtime, otherwise I’m going to have to DIY softer cushion inserts.

It's nice but...Andy I bought the sofa and the 1-seat sleeper. With the sofa I got stuck on the last step: putting the covers on the cushions. Only after I got angry enough to bend it way out of shape and grind it in was I able to accomplish that.
With the sleeper, I got stuck on the first step. I couldn't get the slider pieces to slide out. (I called and got someone who could barely speak English. I tried the chat and fared better, but after a half hour, he ended up giving me instructions for the sofa). Again, once I got angry enough to violently pull on it did it finally come out.
My main complaints are:
1) would it hurt Ikea's aesthetic to have a few words on the trouble spots of assembly?
2) while the cushions on the sofa are removeable and you can take the covers off for washing, you would have to disassemble the sofa to get the covers for the armrests off. And the sleeper sofa is so convoluted that, while possible, taking the covers off would be an ordeal.4
Bad arm rests, mediocre back cushionsShaneWe've had this sofa for about a year.
Pros - the cushions soften over time, if you like that; held up well to kids and cats; wide enough to sleep on if you remove back cushions
Cons - padding on arm rests flattens and slides (kids have caught the hard edge of them with their heads many times) and they are too low to o use as actual arm rests; sits too low to the ground to sit comfortably for my tall partner; back cushions sag and need rotated often3
Love ItMaryWell made, comfortable, very 5
Frame great; cushion covers?KarenEasy to put together and well constructed, but who measured the cushion inserts vs the actual cushion covers? They are short in the front ends.
Material in general is well-woven. 4
Very hard back cushionNathalieAs others commented the new batch of the sofa is very different from the store one. Back cushions are solid rock making seating very straight and narrow, you cant seat unless you remove the back cushions. Totally defeat the purpose of getting a confortable sofa. I chose the velvet green cover and it is very soft. So I Went back to store today to check dimensions and back cushions and they are not the same. Talked to return service and there is no option offered you have to take the cushions back to ikea and hope for an exchange with soft cushions this time but no guarantee it will be better was basically what I was told.2
Super comfortable KarlaAwesome color, super comfy sofa and perfect size 5
Looks great!MarinaVery happy with the purchase, I had one already but after 10 years the bottom cushions started to flatten so I replaced it for a new couch altogether, same size and color.5
Comfortable, simple and elegant RebeccaI purchased the Kivk sofa (corner section) and ottoman for my living room. I love how customizable the set is and it's super comfortable. It was easy to assemble and looks great in my small space. Definitely recommend.5
Really like this loveseat!ErinI love this little loveseat/sofa! I bought it alongside a different sofa and this one was relatively easy to assemble (I think it took two of us about 30-45 minutes). Its firm which I like. It also have low arms which I also like. Great quality!5
Awesome sofa LauryneI absolutely love the kivik line. The versatility and comfort is amazing. I only buy ikea couches that have slipcovers that also bemz makes. I have had my ektorp for years and it looks new, and since they discontinued, I was able to get new covers at bemz. I got the kivik grouping in the corduroy gray turquoise because I have a vintage boho style decor. It is amazing fabric and the color is gorgeous! My husband and I are so happy with the comfort , despite it being more firm , it isn’t too firm , and it’s got the nicest lines as far as style. I am so happy with this purchase. 5
Renew and ReplaceDeboraAfter 20 years with the old sofa it was time for a replacement. Love this new one, easy to put together and looks so stylish in our new home!5

ExcellentDianeI bought this a year and half ago with the matching ottoman in the beige color. It is a complete pain to put together but doable for a single female. Reserve a few hours. I have found it to be very durable. The cushions hold up and have not sagged. The seat area remains very firm. It spots cleans very well if you get a small stain on it. My puppy decided to chew the edge of the ottoman and I also like that I can buy a new cover for it after she gets through this stage. Both solid pieces and would highly recommend. I have Mid-Century modern decor and it's looks awesome.5
Couch Color off - Stains like a MOFOAndrewAvoid this couch. I stuck with the gray (which was lighter than the photos). It picks up everything. After a year, it's completely discolored. Even the bas of the couch, which can't really be cleaned... 2
9 years strong!TaylorGot this sofa off Craigslist brand new from a home that was staged for 3 days. It has come with me to my first apartment, and moved to my house after buying. Two more years and it’s standing strong! This is what I love: Clean lines. Works with many different styles. The sofa comes apart easily, so if you need to move it up a narrow stairway, this is great. Solid wood frame too! Removable, changeable, and fully washable covers. With pets or kids, this is a game changer. My cat does not scratch the canvas material. I have washed my covers several times, and changed them out twice over the years. A little fluffing and flipping the cushions will keep your sofa looking great for years! I have only recently bought a bit of 2” foam from the fabric store and added it to the seat cushions. It has only prolonged the life of this sofa. So stop considering all these online or luxury brands, and just get the Kivik. You won’t regret it!5
Cover Quality Extremely PoorCI love IKEA products and have owned the Kivik for four years now. I went to buy a corner section to add on to my kivik sofa and my original cover was no longer carried so I had to buy a whole new cover set. This new set, Tresund light beige, is such horrible quality. I loved my previous cover, but the tresund is a large weave that pills like crazy. It looks terrible worn after such short use. A sweater shaver is no help with this problem either. The previous cover was such better quality. Im unable to get a refund and left with a dumpy looking sectional. I’ve already contacted ikea for help but there was no remedy. I would not recommend this product. 1
