Fire hazard!AndrewPut an IKEA E17 bulb in. The top of the lamp melted onto the bulb within 1 hour of use. Super dangerous.1
Not white, BLURGH BEIGETanjaThe photo makes it look like a white lamp, but upon opening the package I see it is a dirty-looking beige plastic. I will return it.1
Melted on first useDevynI just bought this lamp this weekend at IKEA which is over an hour drive from me. It does not come with a bulb which I did not realize. I looked at the website for what bulb it recommended. It melted the shade (which is plastic) within 5 minutes and it was not a high wattage bulb. There should really be a bulb included if it's that easy to melt even with the recommended type. The cord also weighs the back of the shade down so it is hard to keep in a good position for looking down at the desk.1
Warning: non ikea lightbulb = destroyedAlexisSince I bought this awhile ago and finally got around to buying a bulb for it (the bulbs were out of stock the day I bought it), I got a bulb based off the product page’s recommendation and now my lamp shade is melted after 10 minutes of use…. Never bought lighting from IKEA before and I know this is a super cheap desk lamp, but I could have bought for same price at target and it would be working for years unlike this one that made the apartment smell like burning plastic shortly after turning on. Also boo for making me have to hand over my email and phone number to submit this review to warn others :/ 1
FeasibleJosephNeeds a little bit weight on the base due to long wire 4
Amazing product BrendanThis desk lamp looks amazing, super lightweight, and is perfectly bright enough for what I need it for. Good build quality!!!! Would recommend it to anyone looking for a lamp to use for reading a book, using a computer and so many more possibilities!!!! Would buy again for sure!!!! 5
too bright to be a desk lamp, good for readingDominiquethankfully it now comes with the lightbulb in the package. i do wish the whole thing was made out of metal because i am concerned that the shade will possible melt like other reviewers said, so far it’s been ok but i haven’t had it on for hours at a time yet. i wanted this as an ambient light but it will be more like a reading light. too easy to knock over but great for minimalists or smaller living spaces in general. great if you’re on a budget but would recommend if you’re looking softer lighting.4
Great lightMaryThis light puts out great light. Make sure you pick up the light bulb for this light when you purchase it. Hard bulb to find.5
Could have been perfectAdonayThe lamp overall is good and esthetically pleasing, especially considering the price. Some concerns are that the head/shade should've been metal like the rest of the lamp which would have helped with possible overheating concerns. The bulb should've be recessed since it ends up being a bit harsh on the eyes when used as a desk lamp. I'm currently using it pointing upwards which helps avoid my eyes from directly seeing the light but lights up the area of room that is relatively dark. Lastly, cord management for this lamp is non existent.4
Great value desk lampEmileGreat value and compact5
Too hot!MaryaliceI used the correct bulb and this lamp got so hot it could burn you.2
Too much a spotlightCandiceIt is bright enough but not good for a desk lamp. 3
Universal swivel head metal lampPamelaFlottilj is a style icon. The lamp is metal, easy to assemble and sturdy. Buy the recommend light bulb. We love ours. Bright to read by. Can use as uplight spot light.5
Love itMouniaBeautiful and powerful light5
Doesn't take regular bulbsForrestIt wasn't until I got it home that I discovered it takes only very rare E17 (intermediate base) light bulbs instead of normal E26 (medium base) light bulbs. Now I am stuck with 2 that I will never use.1
MehSusanThis is a cute lamp for sure. Disappointed that the shade is plastic & you have to take it apart to install the lightbulb. Also, the heavy black cord is ugly (clear would have been better) and the placement of the in-line switch will make arranging this on furniture a challenge. The required bulb is expensive & rare.3
Requires Extremely Specific BulbMariaThis lamp has a nifty design, but requires an extremely specific bulb. I had an e17 halogen bulb which melted the edge of the lamp when I plugged it in for ~30 minutes. I then purchased e17 LED bulbs online which stuck out awkwardly beyond the edge of the lamp. Now, for round three, I'm required to purchase IKEA-specific bulbs that 1) won't melt the lamp and 2) fit flush with the edge. This makes an otherwise cute lamp a much bigger and more expensive headache.3
You cannot find its light easily!BoshraI prefer another kind…2
Does not include bulb, can't tell in storeJamesI bought this in store, where it comes wrapped in cardboard. The display unit looks like the bulb is integral rather than socketed. Would be a good value if the bulb was included, not a good value otherwise.1
