Pretty plant, Surprise bug infestationJanaeI wanted some plants for my office at a new job I recently started. IKEA isn't known for their plants, but I always like to look at them when I'm in-store, so I decided to actually buy some since it was conveniently on my way home from work. I found some lovely and easy to care for indoor plants, including this one.
What I didn't know was that I was also purchasing a massive colony of gnats. Within 2 days my office and my colleagues' offices had gnats flying around and pestering us all day long. I purchased some compostable gnat traps and placed them on the inside of each plant pot and sure enough, this one had gnats completely covering the sticky trap within 24 hours. I've replaced the sticky trap every few days and the issue has slowly been improving, but it has been about 2 months and I'm still seeing gnats in my office even with my frequent sticky trap replacements. I'm not sure I that I would have bought this if I had known it would be this problematic.
Slim Pickings CaseyI recently visited IKEA with the intention of picking up some new plants. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with the selection I found.
Here's a breakdown of the issues I encountered:
Limited Choice: The plant selection was much smaller than I expected. It seemed like there were far fewer varieties compared to past visits.
Unhealthy Plants: A significant number of the plants on display were in rough shape. Some were clearly overwatered, with soggy soil and wilting leaves. Others appeared bone dry and neglected. It was disheartening to see plants in such poor condition offered for sale.
Unpleasant Odors: A few of the plants even had a noticeable unpleasant odor, which could be a sign of root rot or other problems.
Overall, the experience wasn't what I'd hoped for. It felt like many of the plants shouldn't have been on the sales floor and would likely struggle to survive in a new home.
