Less than I expected but still pretty good PetrosThese are basically nice bookcases for the price. It’s a fair deal not a great deal. The white ones that I got the finish on the shelves is so thin that if you drop something not that hard it will nick to finish. The other thing is some parts have been now changed to plastic that used to be metal. I suppose it won’t make a tremendous difference. And the backing board is a trifold which you can see, but I understand it had to be foldable to ship. And finally, they don’t include the long wall screws that you need in order to stabilize the shelf, which is a problem because if you for instance, put it up and then find out like I did that there’s no long screws to go into the wall to secure it now you’ve got a shelf which is unsecured and if you had some kids running around, you’d have to take them with you to buy some screws because the shelf could easily tip over so it seems they should at least give you a couple of 2 inch drywall screws.
Amazing bookshelf ZoeThese are so sturdy and beautiful and easy to assemble. We have one in each room of the house and hope to have more in the future!
BookcaseMarissaDefinitely my favorite bookcase I’ve owned. They are very sturdy and easy to put together. I love that the shelving is fairly adjustable minus the center shelf which provides additional support. I have 2 of these bookcases and they are both full of books and I definitely plan on buying more in the future.
Awesome Design Michael These shelves are very sturdy and the unique way that the move able shelves are attached is awesome. They have a unique support system unlike any I've seen. No worries about the shelves falling down. A unique cute out for baseboards in the back. It allows you to move it completely against the wall, and secure it to prevent it from turning over. Awesome Design!

Not worth the price for particle boardLaceyThe Billy is the new Kallax. These are going to flood Marketplace for years to come, for $10-20 and no one will buy them.
You are paying for particle board. I needed a tall shelf with doors for a specific use, but not really in love with these. They're an odd depth that doesn't fit anything but books, the doors cost $40 EACH, and the shelf itself would likely melt if it gets wet.
This was made to be thrown in a landfill after a couple years which is unfortunate. $70+ for the shelf plus doors would be a good price, $150+ for all of it is a joke.
Particle board. Flimsy, boring, unstable.
Great for a home office/libraryRobertI put together 5 of these today (and 2 of the narrow ones). Assembly was easy. There are two specific features I really like. First, the rounded edges with the laminant wrapped. This is so much better than the sharp edges where the laminant meets like you get with ither products. Second, I like the way the back slides into place and the fasteners. Much better than the ones that lay it on the back and attach with nails.
Very sturdy and affordable DialSometimes you get what you pay for and this time we did! This bookcase is sturdy and looks really nice, sturdy shelves that can be adjusted, all accessories to mount to the wall if necessary. Will say that all of the products we’ve purchased have been made well and durable. You get what you pay for.
SmellyJavedLike the previous version of the Billy bookcase this is a pretty sturdy unit but the finish makes the shelf look a little lower quality. The real issue I've had with this shelf is that the backboard has a strong chemical smell. Despite airing the shelf outside for days and it now standing in the house for almost 3 months it still has a noticeable smell. I won't be buying another one and am hesitant to buy other IKEA products with similar backboards.

Woah quality has declinedSaraWe bought a bunch of the Billy bookcases a few years ago and loved them, so we got a few more recently for added storage. These recent ones are a joke. Most of the hardware has been replaced with cheap plastic pieces and all the front edges of the unit are finished with painted-over tape that goes around each side. The tape is bubbling and wrinkled as well. What happened, Ikea?!

Collapsed on top of my headKassidiMaybe the billy bookcases prior to Covid were better made, but I've had problems with mine from the very beginning and I've had even more problems with IKEA. The one I got was defective and was crumbling in an area as I was assembling it. They told me to keep it and "tried" sending me a replacement, but the person who set up the original replacement made it to where I had to sign for it but I work Monday through Friday 8 to 5 (the delivery hours were 7-6) so there was no one here to sign for it nor could Ikea change shipping after the fact. After three failed deliveries, they gave me a $50 gift card. Rather they said they did but I can't find it anywhere in my email (ikea has no record of it) and I was also told I would be refunded for the original shipping method during this debacle (I paid for next day delivery), but I never got that refund. I had nailed it together to try and salvage it but when I went to move it today, it collapsed on top of my head and now I'm bleeding.
Sturdy and CleanMelissaI love my Billy bookcases. They're sturdy. The shelves don't sag from the weight of the books they're supposed to display like some of the cheaper versions sold by other stores.
